Why would you?

I am not one to get on here and rant to much, but just incase this guy is on here I want to make sure he does not mess up your vacation as well.
My wife decided to take the kids down to the LOTO in August for a week vacation, I can not go since I am now a new business owner and cant leave the shop. She found a condo for rent at Southwood Shores from Dave and Judy Meisel and spoke with them back in late May to book it. They told her all sounded good and they did not need a deposit untel the week before she arrived. Then they emailed her on July 13th asking if she was still going to rent it, she told them yes and asked if they needed a deposit and she again said NO. She decided to go ahead and mail a deposit check to them on Friday so they would have it. Judy then emailed my wife today stating that they had rented the condo to someone else and would not be renting it to her. She then called them to ask why and she was told that since they had not received a deposit yet they decided to rent it to someone else.
The strange part to me is the fact that my family was going to rent it for a week, and the people that they rented to are coming in on the day she was leaving anyway and plus they are a 2 day rental, not a week.
So I guess my question is why in the world would people say 1 thing and then do another? If you say you are going to do it then you should stand behind your word, I know I do that. You would think that a 7 day would make the people more then the 2 but not my business decision. She has since booked another place but IMO these people were wrong, plain and simple:bsflag:

Next time skip the Pirhanna infested cess pool @ LOTO and make vacation plans on Table Rock Lake...I doubt you will get treated in this manner down there. Sorry to hear about your experience.

36Envision 07-19-2011 10:35 PM

Sorry to hear about your experience. Happy you found a place though. There are many good rentals with professional managers or individual owners out there. Enjoy your stay at the lake, it is a fun place and should be enjoyable during the quieter week days and busy weekend.

BDiggity 07-20-2011 10:11 AM

That sux. the only time ive had an issue renting condo was one time when using an agency. all the other times ive dealt with the owner directly & didnt have any issues. The agency wanted all these forms signed & then they misfiled them & i had to start the process over.

dra200832 07-20-2011 04:52 PM

That sucks. We r putting r time share up for sale. Its the week of 4th of July same week every year only 400 bucks a year

LOTO is a **** hole

32Envision 07-20-2011 05:52 PM

gavin seeley 07-20-2011 06:13 PM

Sure you aren't talking about the sad state of Kansas? Why bash LOTO in your first post to OSO? Specific reason?

PWRQWST 07-20-2011 08:31 PM

Gavin, sorry you dont like the lake, but we do. We had a place down there for a couple of years and will again, but I wanted to start my own thing and now we are renting for a week.

Thank you from you that understand where I am coming from. I had another mention in (MWBP) that I should cancel the check as well, since they will more then likely cash it and say we canceled the contract. She had sent it for the entire amount as well, so that is next thing to do in the morning.

We love the Ozarks and look forward to next season when we are back there enjoying it on our boat at our place...

Definitely cancel that check!! How long ago did you mail it? Hopefully it isn't written off of a bank that the payee has easy access to as it may clear much quicker. Good luck once you start looking to buy (assuming you plan on it from your previous post). There are lots of good places, in good locations, at a reasonable price for sale.
Have a great week of vacation.

Wow! ****hole. There is not another lake that draws the revenue or property values that LOTO has within the midwest.

Did you honestly just insinuate that LOTO property values are "good"? Please tell me that this you were joking...lol.

The real estate market on that Bio-Retention cell that you guys call a "lake" is in worse shape than our national debt.

Partying...yes. Bars...yes. Crappy restaurants...yes. Big Iron..yes. Ugly chicks who should keep their clothes on...yes.
Shootout...yes. E-coli...yes. Pirhannas...yes. Good lake to recreate on...no.

PWRQWST 07-21-2011 08:14 PM

OK TRL505 and Gavin, sorry you dont like the lake but a lot of us do. Now I put a post on here about a guy that I am not happy about, so if you would like to comment on that fine otherwise please keep you opion to yourself and for the rest of us please do not trash what we enjoy. Stay on your lake or travel where you want, that is the best part of this country you can do this where you want and so can we. As an example I have never been a fan of fountains but I have not bashed yours.

The nice thing about TRL is the people. If your boat only runs twice a year, you get to be the big dog once. And on the second time you take it out and it blows itself apart, you've always got great people to tow your **s back in.

We'll see you and "Electricfying" at the shootout this year though, ya?

Ha ha....funny...but very true.

BDiggity 07-22-2011 11:22 PM

Dont bother bringing your lake to TRL PQ. No good ramps for boat over 25', limited slips over 30', few marinas w/ premium gas.

The kids had a blast at Captain Rons tonight. :bigbird:

Yes I am insinuating that LOTO property values are good. The entire real estate mark is soft but if you compare properties with the same square footage and ameneties, LOTO properties grab more dollars. Real estate pricing has been inflated for to many years, the prices now are closer to actual value.
Yes the LOTO has its problems but the only reason you here about them and not all the other local lakes is because it is the most popular and the biggest revenue generator.

Agreed. Values are more realistic now after an inflated market for years, especially the luxury spots. Moderately priced property (say a 3 bed, 2 bath, 1600 SF with 80 ft of water) has held pretty steady. I still wouldn't be afraid to purchase something as long as you do enough research. LOTO is always going to attract people due to location and amenities it offers. My family & friends have enjoyed LOTO for years. As for the original post there may be some inexperienced bad apples renting homes they are unable to sell, in that case just be careful who you rent from.

shinglman 07-24-2011 09:22 PM

There are bad apples anywhere you go, but LOTO as a whole is safe and great place to go.

Isn't LOTO still the 3rd most dangerous body of water in the US?....sounds safe...as a whole.

fountain4play 07-25-2011 01:38 PM

First off this thread was about a bad renting experience and nothing to do with the lake itself. For some people that don't like the lake, fine stay were your at and keep your "BS" out of the thread. Whether or not you like LOTO is a personal preference and to "each his own". To come on and bash another venue just show's your bias and doesn't do anything to allow the original poster to vent his frustration.

Yes Table Rock is a nice lake with little or no amenities on the water for powerboaters. For most people here on this board its not our "cup of tea" and calling it a cess pool and dangerous only shows your ignorance. If TBL had anywhere close to 3M visitors each year you'd have issues down there as well, but guess what you don't.

Give it a rest and start your own thread how you dislike LOTO, that way you three LTR lovers can all talk to each other til your blue in the face...

Rich, sorry to hear about your experience. Get the PQ up and running yet or is that one mill still hurt?

Just got back from a week at LOTO. Good times as always. Every location has its good and bad. Pick your place and enjoy.

Not sure where you get your info from but LOTO is not a infested cess pool! Table Rock is nice but has NOTHING over LOTO. Not evern close. No comparison! I find it boring. Went there 5 years in a row until I discovered LOTO. Never been back to Table Rock since. LOTO is the only way to go.

Welcome to the form Gavin- Seems like you have no idea what your talking about! Why is LOTO a **** hole??? Hundreds of miles to cruise, awesome waterfront bars/food/fun. Party cove or many other coves to relax in. Great people, plenty of sun, poker runs, shootout, pub crawls, shopping, many golf courses. What is it again about LOTO that you dont like???? Maybe something happened to you there that gave you a bad experience? If you dont like it there are other lakes that have nothing to do. :drink:

Table Rock is a beautiful lake but does not provide anything near the on water ammenities offered at LOTO. However they do have LOTO beat hands down when it comes to traffic jams and country music shows for the AARP crowd.

How many beaches has LOTO had closed due to dangerously high levels of E coli in the last 3 years?...Just curious.
