Shelbyville weekend before the 4th

With the 4th being on Wednesday we couldn't decide, but the weekend before it is.

We will stay at Sullivan Marina. Arriving 6/29 and leaving 7/3.

Anybody have any plans yet?

Irish?

Slorider?

Irish 05-07-2012 07:16 PM

I'm actually going to LOTO from June 25 through July 1st, so I wont be at Shelbyville that weekend. Is this your only trip up here you have planned this year?

253 05-07-2012 07:50 PM

I have heard that Shelbyville Lake is very low on water, is that correct,

I may be up there that weekend.

ROOSTER 22 05-07-2012 09:33 PM

I have heard it is low also. There was some people going last weekend on mwbp, have not heard a report yet.

slorider 05-08-2012 11:07 AM

I have heard that the lake has come up quite of bit the last couple of weeks. I will be there the weekend before as well. Just found this on a fishing report dated 5/4/12

" Lake level is 597.20 feet which is 2.50 feet normal summer pool; water clarity is stained to clear; water temperatures are in the mid 50's. 1.6 inches of rainfall received recently. "

fireguy 05-08-2012 01:13 PM

Irish, yes so far that is the only trip we have planned to Shelbyville. I would like to do another one, but we will have to see.

As far as the lake level goes, the lady at Sullivan Marina that I talked to said the lake is very low right now, but it is coming up. She was not sure how fast, but she said you could only safely launch a small fishing boat from their ramp right now.

Sullivan Marina have accomodations? Is that the marina with Restuarant/Bar/Night Club?

fireguy 05-08-2012 01:21 PM

Yes, they have the campground, the cabins (suites), covered and non covered slips, and skeeters restaurant/ bar/ lounge. LOL. Skeeters is pretty cool, but definintely not a night club.

bats05 05-08-2012 01:31 PM

Yeah Agree,, i was there last year over the 4th jsut stopped to eat,, was staying at Deer Crossing cabins over by Lithia Springs, slipped boat at lithia

bats05 05-08-2012 01:33 PM

Plowtownmissile 05-09-2012 05:19 AM

I have not heard, be ashame not to have that open again. Who purchased? The Bank Own the resort?

slorider 05-09-2012 02:01 PM

The ballingers from Decatur bought the resort and golf course, they opened the golf course back up a couple of years ago and are now starting on the resort. They have there work cut out for them. They need to make the place more appealling to boaters a bar right down on the lake by the docks would be nice.

And no mold! :lolhit:

I need to get back down there. Been about 6 years or so.

fireguy 05-09-2012 06:32 PM

Eagle Creek resort re-opening would offer a lot as far as accomodations too. I would love to try it when they get it cleaned up and open again. I have only stayed a couple of places there recently Sullivan Marina is our go-to and when we dont stay there we have stayed at the dam motel (spillway inn).

I'm not aware of too many other places to stay. I want a place with a decent room and a covered slip and I am happy. I have no desire to camp.

Whitetail Crossing, close to Finley Marina, not too far to Lithia, nice 1to 5 bedroom Log cabins, pools, and a par 3, 3 hole golf course. Check it out online.

Plowtownmissile 05-10-2012 05:04 AM

We used to stay at Eagle Creek resort all the time as a family and the women in the family always did their "girls weekend" there also. The women go to White Tail Crossing now I believe (big cabins with outdoor pool near Eagle Creek) and now I just do day-trips there with my boat. If Eagle Creek opened back up, I would probably be there a lot more and stay entire weekends/weeks.

fireguy 05-11-2012 06:09 PM

Cool, thanx guys.

Red Planet 05-12-2012 07:37 PM

Water is starting to come up guys, slowly. We was out last weekend and it was pretty nice. A few boats in Cove 5 on Sat but only a hand full on Sun.

bats05 05-12-2012 09:02 PM

Be heading over for the 4th.

O4P 05-20-2012 12:21 AM

The lake may be down now but it should be up by the 4th. I grew up in Sullivan every year it's low in the spring and up by the 4th. If it is at normal pool you just need to stay in channel. If it gets to high it picks up logs and debris this year should be good. Light winter and light sping. Worst case launch at Bo Woods around the corner from Sullivan marina. The ramp is way better there. And it is like 5 minute drive if you are staying at the marina.

ROOSTER 22 05-20-2012 08:59 AM

Was there yesterday. Lake is still Low, web says a foot below summer pool Went to Skeeters. Things are ok as long as you know where your going.

speedfreek1 05-20-2012 09:16 AM

good deal , if you can get to skeeters its all good..

Plowtownmissile 05-20-2012 09:58 AM

Just checked my schedule and I'm off the weekend before the 4th. If everyone wants to meet up, I'm up for it.

X2...It will get higher

I should've kept my house down the road from Sullivan Marina. I could've rented it out.

diggin H20 05-29-2012 10:34 PM

We were at Shelbyville all weekend. Water is low but not too bad. We went to Skeeters Sat. and Sun. night. Stayed in the channel and all was good. Water is very clean right now too.

That sounds great, if I get my boat fixed by then. Gimbal ring is broken and Mercury has it on backorder.

I oredered the stainless steel gimbal ring from Hill Marine.

O4P 05-31-2012 06:09 PM

The water will be clean until it goes up and picks up debris. It will probably not go up much more this year if it was a foot below it will maybe get to normal pool.

fireguy 06-08-2012 05:45 PM

aaaargh

My boat is still broken and the gimbal ring has not arrived yet. I thought it would be in 3 days ago. Then I still have to get it fixed. I am getting nervous and wondering if I need to cancel my reservations.

Plowtownmissile 06-09-2012 01:08 AM

Don't sweat it fireguy. We still have a few weeks to go. BTW, I'm definitely coming up that weekend.

WILDwhenWET 06-18-2012 06:40 PM

Isn't Shelbyville too small for big boats really?

Its plenty big and long. I have a hard time choosing between it and LOTO.

fireguy 06-24-2012 09:53 PM

Well, of course I had a SNAFU on my boat repairs and I still dont have it back. Not sure if it will be done in time to leave friday or not.

If it is not done I am going to take my buddies Ranger, my old bass boat, and then he and I will be able to fish and hang out on his Rinker.

fireguy 06-26-2012 05:31 PM

SNAFU number 4. Service manager from boat joint calls me today and tells me the bushing for the gimble ring they ordered was supposed to come today. It was on the packing list, but there was a hole in the bottom of the box and no bushing.

Looks like I am gonna be cruisin in the old Ranger.

BTW, I am at my witts end with this place and I would really like to find a good Marine repari shop in the St Louis area.
