The boat is now topless. Here is the boat mocked up with seats and windows before the painting. Escape hatch in floor is also gone. Now the boat will get nice fuzzy carpet instead.

Looks Good !:ernaehrung004:

Boy Brad you don't mess around when it comes to getting things done and done right.
Great job, looks really good! |
nice job! why the change? sick of the canopy?
|
Looks GOOD Brad!!!
|
The canopy is a blast but is a bit intimidating to many people including my wife. She calls it the race boat and has been reluctant to get in the boat more than a few times. Somthing about closing the hatches, putting on seat belts and seeing an escape hatch in the floor that is unsettling for her. The canopy is also very hot without A/C.

Nice job

Look's great
Are you reusing the windshields? |
Great job, I think its going to look better.Does the center brace block a lot of your view?
|
I am going to reuse the windshields. New is about $10k. I actually like the semi race boat look of those compared to the full on pleasure version which would not have the painted upper edge or the fastner holes. I will use the button style fastners with a backer on the top of the windhield. I think it will look cool. I find the F16 style quarter canopy windshields much more obstructive than what MTI uses. The center post or the side posts are not an issue at all when you sitting behind the wheel.
The cockpit will be painted to match the boat and bring the paint scheme into the boat with matching carpet. |
Brad the boat looks great I cant wait to see it this summer all painted. Great job:ernaehrung004:

did you ever get your grab handles figured out? Was this the boat you were trying to figure out how to fab some?
|
The grab handles are going in a 24' Daytona I bought. The Daytona is a 110 mph outboard hot rod. Doing a complete restoration on that boat in a theme of a Ford GT40. I love those small go fasts.
|
Love the small fast boats! My last two were allisons. One was actually the fastest v, in 1997 at 129 and the second was the boat built to beat it. It was radared at 120 off the bottle, but they never got the set up just right. They were aiming at 150!!! I need to create some handles for a friends 26' AO. I was thinking of designing some linear actuated ones. I manufacture stainless and carbon products, specifical dealing in thin wall tubing, so i have benders out the wazzu, let alone lasers, and anything else to build some parts.

With spring getting close it was time to speed up the conversion. Mitcher T in Michigan did the paint work. 85 hours of shop labor to get the paint cockpit to look like this. I will post more pics when the interior and windshields are installed.

Mitcher T does very nice work. There are some new side panels I made. Seats, carpet and windshields and done. Only a few more hours to go of work left. Finally!

I am 99% done. Some trim pieces and need to order custom carpet. Not to bad for a winter project at home. http://i40.tinypic.com/20aaqs0.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/tasi84.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/2drpte.jpg |

The boat came out real nice Brad. Panels look great and bringing the paint into the cockpit made all the difference in the world. |
looks nice Brad....
|
Is that the ONLY left hand drive MTI ? I can't think of any others.
It came out awesome. Congrats Brad. Will I see it at LOTO Shootout week? |
I am not sure if it is the only LH steering MTI. My last four cats were LH steer. I like to throttle with my right hand like most other boats. With the throttles in the center console it only makes sense to sit on the left just like a car. So my feelings are RH steering belongs in England. :p

Very Professional Looks Perfict

outstanding job!!! you should be proud..
the boat is 100% nicer!!! |
Gorgeous!
|
I agree with you Brad, L/H steer is the way to go!! my cat is a lefty and I dont know how I ever drove a R/H drive boat before!!! Life begins at 140mph buddy!!!
