55' Mti
In the MTI ad in dupont registry they advertise a 55'. Anyone have any pics of this boat? any ideas as to when its coming out?
thanks -Rick |
Re: 55' Mti
Boat number 1 will be done by July 1st. Turbine power. There are two others sold. I have the specs and will be happy to send them to you. Just let me know.

Re: 55' Mti
I just saw that line drawing on pier57.com. Has the exact cockpit i want. 2 up fron 4 inthe back with wrap around windshield and room next to the drivers seat for easy docking etc. Awesome boat. maybe someday.

Re: 55' Mti
i call that my lotto boat..... as soon as i hit the lotto, that boat will be mine.... :D

why do you need two more bolsters? MTI's aren't usually as wide as other cats (the 44 is about a foot and a half narrower than a skater or nor-tech of equal length) so the extra 24" you talk about just isn't there, plus there is the wind factor, sitting in the outside seats of open cockpit boats like that aren't much fun, and putting the seats out any wider would make it almost unbearable to ride in at high speed.... i can't wait to see one get tested at LOTO... ( seeing speed racer every weekend gets old... :D )

Re: 55' Mti
I believe he is talking length wise not width, instead of MTI's jump seats install a more usuable set of bolsters, and then the 4 person bolster set up in the rear, that would be cool.
|
Re: 55' Mti
You can get the 55 with either 2 seats and the center storage pod with 2rear facing jump seats or you can go with 3 bolsters up front. Actually Randy will do just about any thing you want.I have a 42 stand up and you would be suprised how well the rear facing seats work. However I am working on a new 44 with this new cockpit and 2 sit-down seats in the front and 4 across the back with no center pod or rear facing seats.

is this some type of sit down/suv combo? :D would it have a cabin still? sounds like a good combo... |
Re: 55' Mti
Yea, Its the porsche, cayenne of boating.
It will be the same hull as speed racer, probably with 6's though and the new cockpit which started life as a 44 standup in size but cut down to a sit down height with a wrap around windshield just like their 4 seater. It will not be as squared off as mine. It will have the same shape as speed racer but will have some new style doors to get down into the cuddy. I'm thinking only about half the cuddy I have now with no bed, and of course there will be alot less head room because of the race style deck. |
Re: 55' Mti
that sounds cool... how will the transom look? will it have the 42 transom if you run sixes? why not shaft drives? i like the look of the transom ext, keeping the props under the boat... what power are you putting in it? your big motors or something else?
|
Re: 55' Mti
The only difference between the 42 and 44 is the length of the swim pad area, as you know. The 42 sit down will have the same tail as the race boat. The 44 is normally a 50K upgrade in hull price alone, mostly because of the labor involved in beefing it up for the rudder. If you do 6's they can put a block out underneath so it should be very close in price to the 44. I want the 44 with sixes if the price comes in close to the 42 with sixes which I think it will. I also want to have the steps on the swim platform from the stand up 44 put in to help when tieing up and getting in after being in the water. Randy said that the steps would be no problem.
The main reason I want the 6's is $$, like I said the 44 is 50K more, the shaft drives are about 10K more and them the rudder is like 15K extra. I like the rudder boats, but the sixes are great, better around the docks and alot less $$ when all is factored in. |
Re: 55' Mti
i see now... sounds like a sweet set-up... the block out under the sunpad was the part i was curious in, didn't know how that would work, but that makes sense.. i was alwasy under the impressions that surface drives were cheaper than sixes (steerable arnesons)... i knew the rudder system added more but i would never guess 25k more for surface/rudder... are the bpm's more expensive than arnesons?
|
Re: 55' Mti
I don't know about the Arnesons. I know randy likes the bpm's and shafts better, I believe the rudder steers better and something about the dropbox on the bpm and the counter rotation of one side is easier with the bpms.I believe bpm is a foreign sub of Arneson. I know alot of the parts, shafts and trim cyclinders are interchangable. I usually just go with what ever Randy recommends. He likes the shaft boats better but I just can't see the $$ difference for me.
|
Re: 55' Mti
i like the bpm's too and its obvious they work well, isn't that why they banned them after tommy bahama? :D , it will be a cool boat with either setup... what kind of engines are you gonna put in it?
|
Re: 55' Mti
Randy said in Tommy Bahama's first race he was like 15 sec. per lap faster.I think it is due to the rudder and how fast and hard you can take the turns. They called it an unfair advantage and banned any more ruddder boats but Tommy Bahama and the orginal Pier 57 boat were already grand fathered in.
I'm not sure about power yet. I am talking to my engine builder right now to try and figure out this situation. I will probably put my whipplecharged motors in or maybe some 1075's. Just depends on the money. It shouldn't take that much power to get the speed I want right now. |
Re: 55' Mti
i don't think you can go wrong with 1075's/sixes... what kind of speed would a 42/44 be with that combo?
|
Re: 55' Mti
I haven't ask Randy about that yet. Should be well above 150. I would think more like 160. Randy is building a 42 sitdown with 1075's and 6's right now for himself. It should be ready in about a month or less, we'll know then.
|
Re: 55' Mti
i think i have narrowed my next boat to a 39 sit down, now i just have to find a used one with sixes that isn't 500k+....
|
Re: 55' Mti
Why not a 42 stand up. you can pick the power for a lot less than 500K.
|
Re: 55' Mti
i'm not a suv type of guy...
|
Re: 55' Mti
Its an Escalade.
|
Re: 55' Mti
its a fast escalade.....
|
Re: 55' Mti
Its the supercharged version.
|
Re: 55' Mti
are you going to trade it or sell it outright? are all the sales going through peir 57 now?
|
Re: 55' Mti
David has a couple of dealers set up around the country and Canada. I would prefer to sell mine ouright for obvious $$ reasons. But I will trade it if I have to.

Re: 55' Mti
Zero Defect was and is a #6 boat. It did win every race but that was because it was running the very first set of dry sump sixes. These were being shipped from overses because Mercury had not developed their version yet.
Tommy Bahama and Pier 57 were built several yrs later with the knowledge gained from racing in Dubai. |
