Marc & Scotty,

Glad to see you guys are alright. Yeah, it's a terrible shame what had to happen and I am sure it has hit the pocket books big time, especially after Michigan City. Are you guys going to try to pull out one of the back up boats the old Platnium or the MTI for the season? I know you guys have said in the past since Haggin is gone, money has been tighter. Throw some Sterlings in that MTI or replacement turbines in her and hit the water again? I mean she would still be a stong racer... at least until the Mystic hull is fixed!

Astaama 07-01-2012 09:16 PM

Glad both of them are safe, my friend shared a few pictures on facebook some i saw here. I hate to see Miss Geico be down and out but hey, boats are replaceable, humans are not

Not that I know of Scott. I believe Dave was referring to "MY WAY" as the 2nd incident.

Scotty & Marc, I am sorry for your loss and happy to hear you made it out ok...

Perhaps the new boat will get some attention now ?

Best of luck guys !

At the end of the day the boat is just that, a boat. it is not the first to be damaged and wont be the last so as long as you guys make it home to your families at the end of the day all is good.
to some of the rest of you, driven it, I dont know how much racing you have done with any or all of the organizations and personally I dont care, this was a post to inform everyone about what happened and for people to find out that the guys were fine and off the boat. If you or any others have such a problem with SBI, APBA or any others then start a post about that. those of you who have turned this into your own agenda to bash the organization just disgust me and are part of the reason after 20+ years involved in racing I walked away. when you people sit behind your computers playing petty politics just so you can feel important to yourself it makes me wonder if it is worth my time to even visit this site.
Marc and Scotty, feel good that you made the choice to get off the boat and are safe and sound, salvage what you can and move on. I have pieced more race boats back together than I care to count but at the end of the day coming home to family means more than any trophy so consider this a win.
Steve Schmidt

I agree with 100% Steve. I feel the same way as you do. As for the others, well a little bit of common sense would help. Glade to see your still alive and kicking in the hills of Ga.

Yea no worries, im currently a student aircraft mechanic, just think that engine failure could have done it or something, but like miss geico said theres a team searching for the root cause...

The crew is safe and thats what matters. Boats are replaceable

Well said Steve! :) The only thing 'driven it' drives is his garbage mouth.

Like others have said, great post Steve, dont let a few run you off from here, most of us just love performance boats, and some have had the opportunity to work on or actually race boats. If it werent for your shop I never would have met Scotty, Mark, Lobsterboy and even one of your customers who is now a very good friend Ray, do you remember the red 26 American Offshore? Since you moved out of town it has been my job to help Ray keep it going:lolhit:

First off, glad you guys are OK!

Second, Marc's statement exemplifies what a class act the entire Geico Team is. In the midst of their own disaster they are more concerned with the tragic loss of life we have had in and around the sport.

I believe they have more than one turbine boat ? I have been to there home base in west palm . I know they can pull and replace the motors in 15 minutes. They have spare turbines there and a many boats, just not sure if there are 2 mystics ?

The resin that binds the materials together will burn, but the carbon fiber cloth itself will remain, as it has already been reduced to it's most elemental form (carbon). After a bad fire, it will be a mass of shredded fibers, like a giant wig. A true shame; glad that no one was hurt, and hope that enough can be salvaged for the program to continue. The GEICO operation is a badly-needed ambassador to the "sport".

I can't help but wonder what is next for the boys. The financial loss of Miss G. must be a huge blow to their team, even a well sponsored team like they are. With John Haggin no longer pumping in truckloads of money, I hope this isn't the last we see of the Gieco team. It would be a huge loss to offshore boats in general. Fans would be lost without her around........

Glad everyone is safe and good luck in the future!

I guess I'm selfish but man I was really looking forward to see you and Quatar going at it next year.. Better get to work.

Only the one Mystic, last I knew they still had the Platinum, and the MTI.

That sucks!

There should be a way to blow the bilge drain as a last ditch effort to save the hull. It's not like the boat will sink but simply bob in the water but at least the fire won't burn it to the waterline!

Glad everyone is okay!

JBS Crew 07-02-2012 10:06 PM

Damm shame. Glad to hear Mark and Scott are ok. Only thoose who have been thru similar circumstances can understand how big a loss this is to a race team, both emotionally and financialy. Remember the important thing is a new boat can be built but not a new Mark and Scott. Stay strong team Gieco.

Glad everyone is okay!

I had the same thought. A large caliber machine gun would have saved some equipment too with the same principle, but bilge drains would not have sank the boat fast enough.

The only thing that might have helped was if they could have somehow flipped it upside down. Water would have cooled and extinguished what it came in contact with, and trapped air oxygen (not counting the bottles) would be all used up.

Too bad TowBoat US wasn't johnny-on-the-spot for that effort. I hear they are great at flipping boats!

northernoffshore 07-02-2012 11:04 PM

towing it backwards could of sunk it too but the heat from the fire was probably too overwhelming to do anything but jump over board.

LMAO... yes, I am sure you are making Dave lose sleep by attacking one racing/oso's most respected members. Not to mention your are just boosting your credibility at the same time as a first class offshore guru.. As I am sure you know based on your fact laden posts that not everyone gets out of racing because they lose a sponsor, some walk away because they have achieved what they set out to do. Believe it or not some people do not even need a sponsor.. I am just speculating because I do not have the insight you have, I can only go off the couple dozen races I have seen and talked to Dave and his crew at. That does not compare to your insider super troll internet rambo behind a keyboard knowledge :signs043:

See this just shows your ignorance and why you shouldn't have posted that snide comment because you didn't know who you were talking to.

Dave is Dave Scott AKA Kilokat, many time World Offshore Champion and 5 time LOTO Top Gun Champion. He has logged more hours over 150mph than you have hours in your boat.

Now are you man enough to make a public apology because that's what you need to do.
