the stereo is !! Actually did not get a pic of the stereo but will share some pics of the new ride under construction. By the way it is another 50 V powered by trip Yanmar diesels, Arneson drives. Auto pilot so I can catch some sleep ( LOL ), Garmin touch scren 5212 w XM weather / sonar. Should be ready by the middle of April. Graphic design by Harold at Grafik Worx, paint by Nor Tech. It's always a pleasure to deal with Nor Tech on a project like this.:D

Thanks Jim,

Deck option is just in reference Harold made to a couple of choices I had with deck design.

I know you don't need another 50 but for anyone interested my "old" boat is still for sale. Reduced the price again but if it does not sell by the end of May, I will send it to Canada and just use it there 3 or 4 months a year and leave the diesel boat in FL. :D

Nice boats.... What is the story behind the Predator name?

The old 50V runs 100 with tri-850's, what do you expect with the diesels?

rchevelle71 03-15-2008 08:29 PM

congrats bob,

looking good!!!

I really like the color choices Bob. Where does the line form for rides?

WOW! serious boat for serious boy!

Keep pictures coming! nice nice nice boat....

boonville1963 03-15-2008 09:45 PM

Bob,trying to help you get it sold, the 50v just is hard to beat for an all around performance cruiser, I think you made a great choice on the diesels.

JS - The name was not original by me but stuck. Back in 02 I bought a slightly used 50 from Nor Tech ( pictured below) to have while they built my current boat to spec. I wanted to change the name but my buddies overruled me & convinced me to use the name again. So this time around I did not even consider another name. When the current boat sells I expect the new owner would want to change the name, as was the case on my first PREDATOR, but we will see.

PIc 1 is original, pic 2 is current

Speed on the diesel boat will be mid 70's with a 600 + mile range. There are a couple of 50's built now that will do that. I can still do poker runs as well as get back to doing some of the long range cruising that I used to do. Looking forward to that. :D

Bob, congrats, boat looks awesome. I like what Harold did on the design, and I'm partial to the blue's, also that contrasting red stripe looks great. What is going on with the upper section of the dash, is that where the garmin is going. What color's in the cockpit and cabin did you end up going with.:cool-smiley-011: Jeff

Chuck 03-16-2008 06:34 AM

I really like the graphics Bob. Congrads on another beautiful boat.

Jupiter Sunsation 03-16-2008 10:07 AM

NT is on to something with the diesels. The 39V at the Miami show was very cool and didn't sound bad with the hatch down. With the hatch up it sounded like a UPS truck was coming around the corner but with the hatch down it had a little rumble. Price was ridiculous and you can never recoup the cost difference in the boats lifetime in fuel/ maintenance savings but I suspect on a 50 that gap closes a bit after figuring in the resale on a diesel boat.

bowtye8 03-16-2008 11:30 AM

Bob Looks beautiful!!!!!

Cant wait to see it in person!

Heck I have to get a ride on your current predator:D

Thanks Jeff and others on the fine compliments. :D

You have a good eye Jeff re: dash. The Garmin 5212 is the largest plotter to get built into a NT dash to date. Nils came up with this idea of moving it to the top and doing a bit of customization to get it to fit. The dash and cabin door have since been painted and may be installed by now.
In the cockpit I am using the siver carbon fiber / bay blue and a deeper blue primarily with a few small accents in red to give it some "pop".
The cabin I am treating completely different as I did in the current boat. The seats are a tan leather look basketweave and armrests a matching color with dimples. Kinda hard to describe but should have interior pics in early April. :D

I first met Trond and Nils back in 1991 or 92 at the Miami Boat Show. I went for a ride with them in one of their first 50's with small diesels but a top speed in the low 60's did not do it for me. I'm kinda over the 100 MPH thing now ( I think ! ) so I will give it a try. Mid 70's should work and with the high hours I rack up, the economy is attractive. :D

I went for a ride with Adib on his 39 at this years Miami show and was I impressed. That thing runs in the 80's!!:D

I am wondering if I can get some opinions on how I can apply the Team PREDATOR lettering across the faring as shown in pic 1. In the illustration in pic 2, I do not like how the red lettering runs into the red stripe. Would it be a mistake to stop the red stripe just above and below the PREDATOR lettering?
The other option I considered is a smaller lettering that would stop short of the red stripe but do not think the scale would be right. Any ideas?:D

MegaByte*3 03-16-2008 01:22 PM

Skip the "predator" logo and just invite young nubile women to pose on the fairing. Every one will conclude that you are THE Predator. :cool-smiley-011:

Ultimate cruiser for SWFL! With three Arnesons it shouldn't be difficult is seeing you on the water:D

Bob I really like this paint job of yours. It is very classy with a little pop. The red helps to do this. Why not take the name off in this area since the color red runs into the stripe or put it on the opposite side..enclosed is a pic of my deck, it might be to plain for you. Keep the pics coming.:cool-smiley-011: Jeff

Good advise, Jeff. I need to be careful not to get too much going on paintwise. Wanted to tone this one down a bit. If you look at the deck pic in post 3, I had left the faring lettering off until I saw the finished product. I really like the clean lines of your boat. You nailed it just right, in my opinion.:D

Thank You Bob, I love the way Harold designed my boat. The Bentley Blue is cool to the touch on the deck and is easy to keep clean. The Bay Blue for cockpit like you mentioned you will really like, looks great in the sun and is easy to clean. Now I looked at pic #3 with out the name on the fairing, what about doing it outlined like Nor-Tech is on the deck, or possibly outline it with another color on the boat on the outside of the outline. Either way it looks AWESOME. I'VE learned sometimes simple is better, either that or Im just getting older, and I might as well throw in that Wiser comment so I feel better too.:D

Airpacker 03-17-2008 08:31 AM

she looks awsome Bob. Way toned down for you but awsome none the less.

1bagger 03-17-2008 07:41 PM

Wow ! That is darn right beautiful .
I like the " Predator " on the front . Will the lettering have a slight curve to follow the fairing ? Can you have the lettering outlined with one of the colours already used . Like a lighter shade of blue that doesn't touch anywhere else . Love the red accent . That must be there for safety like on a long distance voyage somewhere far away at a very fast pace ?

Paul

pm203 03-17-2008 10:48 PM

I think it's cool how it runs over the red on the fairing. With proper airbrushing to outline it, I think it will be nice. Or.....leave it off for a cleaner look. Ask Harold what he thinks.

ACTIVESHACK 03-18-2008 09:58 PM

Bobthebuilder 03-19-2008 08:04 AM

Thanks everone. I will get my lettering problem on the faring figured out. Kinda leaning toward leaving it off altogether.
I will be back at Nor Tech one week from today to check on the progress. Then up to St. Pete's to do the PRA Poker Run with "old" PREDATOR.

Hey, the motors are off the shop floor and in the boat !! Not as sexy as my blown 850's but ........ we'll see.

And there is that elusive stereo !!

Very pleased with the progress and she just might be ready for the PRA Ft. Myers Poker Run in mid April. :D
