After I do some office work in the morning and find a new fuel pump drive shaft that I somehow managed to loose last night, and buy some fuel, I am going for a boat ride. :coolcowboy:
Oh, and clean it up a little. |
We pulled the cam out and inspected it. THere were a couple lobes that broke in on a slightly wider pattern than the rest. I had a couple guys that are more experienced look at it, they said it looked great.
We stuck it back in (pulled the lifters in order) and fired it back up yesterday. Miss and rough spots smoothed out after I set the valves correctly. Boat is buttoned up. I have to fabricate a power steering resevoir bracket today, and put some more fuel in it. Other than a quick was, she is ready for a shakedown. Shooting for this afternoon. :coolcowboy::coolcowboy: Will post some pics later hopefully. Ordered a complete new Livorsi guage package, and some new accesories. Everything new is going in stainless and annodized blue. Gonna look sharp....... |
I think we got the rest of the bugs worked out tonight.
Gonna put it back in tomorrow morning and see what we gots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRRferqtT7s |

2 laps down, and a trip to Shell. Still together. Still needs some adjusting, but we are in business....
|
1 more trip down. Havn't pushed it to WOT yet, but i did get it to around 60 at 3700rpm.
I think the wheels are going to be to big. I have a tab that decided to take a dump. drive and tab indicators are still spurratic. I am going to re run the valves in the morning and then try and find out if I have either a vacuum leak or a belt whining. When I start to push it up past about 3400, I start to get a pretty pronounced whistle back there. I don;t want to tempt fate if it is a vacuum leak and lean out a cylinder.. It is a great riding boat though. Stays under you nicely. Can't wait to get the rest of the bugs worked out and new dash etc next week and get her down to sunny south FL. |

Put thermostats and bi pass kits on today. Gonna run it tomorrow and see what happens. Pulled the lids off this evening and it looked like someone smuggled ranch dressing into there.
Engine no t making water because the oil in the pan was still nice and clean. Just a mega load of condensation under the lids. Just cant get enough temp in them to boil it off. I am experimenting. I have a 160 in one side with a 1/2" by[ass line and a 140 in the other side with a 3/8" bi pass line. Lets see which one works better.. Drilled 1/8 hole in thermostats also in case they ever get stuck. |
A buddy posted this on you tube for me from saturday :coolcowboy:

All right gents. Just getting in tonight. A few pics of where we are in the process. Fiberglass and fill is handled. It is not perfect, but at least now it is solid and doesn't look like someone tried to BBQ it.

Our home made steering resevoir tank. Not perfectectly straight, but cheap and works great. I can re make it later and get it a little straighter.

Engines are at the machine shop right now. I took them back out a couple weeks ago. We were getting a lot of seepage through the head gaskets after I installed the T stats. Pulled the engines down, and the blocks and heads weren't decked when these engines were originally machined 5 years ago.
This is a machine shop that I have since stopped using a long time ago, but these engines were still on hand. I am actually glad someone did not buy them because it would have been a nightmare for them and me. I had Bob Madero cut me a new set of HR cams for it. We upgraded all the valves to inconel, and making a few other adjustments. They should be ready to dyno by the end of the week. I want it back together before the end of the year. I think it will happen. I have some other winter projects to do and I don;t need this one getting in the way. It should be a pretty sweet ride. Bob thinks these engines should be between 550 and 600 HP. |
It is a sweet rig! Very light. I am looking forward to coats and ski masks for the winter boating season.

Engines are back from the shop. Good job RMBUILDER on the cams. These numbers are with as cast iron oval port merlin heads. We cahnged valves to inconel and springs to comp, otherwise these engines are with out of the box, as cast parts.
only about 9.3:1 comp. 750 carbs and dual plane intakes. 496CI. 428,431 HP at 5300 480, 485 lbs at 4400 Huge torque curve between 3000 and 4000 I really should be putting these in my sea ray with those numbers, but I wan't to see how these little engines will make this boat run. Looks like maximum fuel consumption is around 30gals an hour at WOT. Good job to Owens racing for perfectly matching machine work to get the numbers to almost match. They are getting dressed and ready to install again. Hopefully this week. Here is one sheet and a comparison against the old cams I had in there. |
well at least it'll be running soon. should push that thing ok i'd think..do ya know the weight on the hull???? what did ya do with the big hp motors????

This boat should scoot along just fine with these engines. And if someone doesn't want them, I will be happy to keep them. They are nice conservative mills.:coolcowboy: |

Don't sell your self short judge:drink: |

Gonna try to put them back in tomorrow and start buttoning her back up. We will probably get a warm day here again pretty soon so I can test it out. :coolcowboy::boat: |
