Quad V8 300’s or Trip 400R’s?
I’m really struggling with this decision so thanks in advance for your response.
I’ve ordered a Nor-Tech 340 Sport with the Fishing package. I originally ordered it with trip Merc 300 V8’s and rethinking my decision. I like to go fast and was thinking of upping the HP.
The boat will mainly be used for fishing and the occasional poker run and joy rides.
the salesman at my dealer is also a great friend of mine and tells me without a doubt stick with the new V8 300’s and just add a motor. Nor-Tech has already built their 340 with quads and say the boat handles incredibly well, has incredible acceleration, and of course is well into the 80’s.
at the same time I can’t help but think performance would be better with trip 400’s? Less weight, less drag, etc.?
What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear all the pros and cons to each setup.
thanks so much for your time!

I would have to think the 300's are much less stressed. Same size motor yet 150HP less. If you plan to put a BUNCH of hours on and want them to last a lot of hours just seems something with less HP/cu in would out last the higher one.
But other than the SC I do not know what the difference is on the motors

I'll take something from Randy 'Wildman' who rigs and sells Liberators.....
A 22' Liberator with a 300V8 compared to a 400R on the same boat, the 400 has a higher top end but the 300 has a better hole shot. I know it's a very different boat but there's some sort of engine comparison.
I'm guessing the 400 is nearing the end of its production whereas the 300 is the new generation. I'd go 300's and the difference between 3 or 4 ain't huge. Bragging rights are probably more noticeable than performance but it's your dime...... 🙂
Nortech build beautiful boats, either way, they won't rig a bad boat.
