Mhale00

I assume you are the guy with the Nordic that I talked to a few weeks ago. First I have to interject that all hulls are different and some are not set up , x-height and such as well as they should be. Just adding a 100HP to any boat is no guaranty of 8-14 mph unless the drive heights, prop type and pitch and blade thickness are sometimes optomized to realize the horsepower addition. I understand that in talking to a few Nordic owners with your hull that adding a 1" drive spacer to your hull with the right prop has gotten them to be able to use the extra power and increase their speeds about 8-10mph with more power. Make sure you have a specific conversation with Aarron at Absolute about this item. The drive spacers are easy to add and apparently it corrects some x-height issues that have been plaging some Nordic hulls like you have. Raylar has had to many tests and confirmations of big power and speeds increases to know that our kits make 525HP. The problem sometimes like this is a hull that needs drive and prop tweaks to utilize the extra power of the motor.

After Aaron checks the boat and motor I will have him GPS test it on the lake and confirm his recorded speeds.

Some hulls, drives and props take a little more corrective action and tweaking , but a 100HP increase should net you more than 4 mph, I agree! I feel your hull running the right prop , drive ratio and x-height at normal weight should see about 1 mph for every 12HP which equates to 8mph and I think thats where you should be. Sorry our earlier production could not keep up with more timely shipping, we just got behind back in April. I also know Aaron got behind on the installs because he was buried with kit orders and other committments. We now have kits instock in good quantities and we ship all orders within two or three days after the dealer or buyer pays for the equipment. My apologies, no excuses we did our best, sorry for the inconvience and the trouble it caused you.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

The kit MHale00 is talking about here is just heads cam and intake and is a bolt on package for the stock 496HO. No these blocks do not have forged cranks and the forged rods are substaintialy weaker than the old dimple BB rods and only have 10mm rod bolts which cannot take 600HP safely over long period use. This kit does make a 100HP increase and costs under $6K plus install not $18,600. Even our HO600 motors we build don't cost $18K and they do make 600HP. I have plenty of dyno sheets to confirm both motors. Raylar does not make claims it can't prove! You might want to verify the cost of a Merc HP525 and a 600SCI motor with a dealer and look at the real cost differences. We have new Raylar equipped boats hitting the water every week and the overwhelming majority of these see power and good speed and acceleration increases when properly dialed in that prove our results. Just talk to some other OSO'ers like Senecadds, Escape Velocity, and Shadow just to name a few. We will try and make sure MHale00's boat is checked out to find the hidden speed problem and I am sure he will be taken care of by Absolute. Motors can't cure hull and drive problems but we can certainly identify the limiting area and if the owner wants to correct these issues they cetainly can.

Ray @ Raylar

Question for Ray. What does the stock 496 HO really dyno at? Isn't the 425HP rating supposed to be prop shaft HP, whereas your 525HP rating is flywheel? I think we've pretty well documented that it takes 17HP per MPH increase in a 28 Nordic. I've seen my 28 Heat vary speed by as much as 5 MPH on the same day depending on water and weather conditions. A good chop makes a hugh difference. When I was running a 600+ HP 540 I saw speeds as low as 68 and high as 76, at the same elevation. So, I think it will take a lot of testing and tweaking before Mhale00 can really determine how much it helped.

Our latest pair, we call the Purple Monstas" They will be installed next month in a new 30 foot Shockwave with an awesome graphics job. We just got motors of the dyno. These are 496 motors not 540's or 572's. We ran them on the stock Mercury 496HO ecms with our special ebox piggy back programmers. We think the results were pretty damn impressive! 650 rpm idle, 540 ft/lbs torque at 2500rpms. 640ft/lbs of torque at 4200 rpms that stays at 630 ft./lbs all the way to 5000rpms. At 5100 rpms just before the 5150 soft rev-limiter we made 607HP! and the horsepower was showing no sign of leveling off there. As soon as we get the rev-limiter to 5400 to 5600 rpms with Dustins help we are pretty sure we will see 625HP, maybe slightly more. These motors have our forged steel cranks, H-beam billet rods and our Mahle forged pistons. The cam is our incredible BP106 grind and the motor is sporting our standard Bigpower aluminum heads, the "CoolGap" intake with our billet throttle bodies , headers and our standard kit parts. These motors were ready for delivery in six weeks after order so we feel good about our lead times. The really good news is we can put these babies together out the door for about $18,600.00 plus shipping with headers and larger oil cooler. All you need is your 496HO ECM ,accessories, brackets, wiring harness, cooling system and sensors. This pricing includes a core credit on your good short block, pan and dampner. Add in the labor for the changeout and you have a Mercury "guardian protected" 600HP naturally asspirated reliable stormin bull EFI motor. This oughta get some people pondering the cost of 600HP "blue motors" I would like to post a couple of pictures but I can't seem to get them small enough in size to go as attachments. So much for our silence, Its hard to be humble! Just kidd'in!

Ray @ Raylar
That is how I came up with $18600 & 200HP increase.

Hopefully, your kit can make a lot of 496 owners happy. I glad to see someone trying to fix GM's worst motor ever. Sounds like the interior components are weak.

For what it is, it's a damn good engine. It wasn't designed to take major hp increases, but for good stock performance and reliability it fits the bill. For the three years I had mine, it started every time and ran flawlessly. I know some people that didn't go out as much as I did because their "super duper" engines didn't run all the time.

I Don't mean to insult anyone who has a 496.

I know of quite a few that have run perfect under stock conditions. I have one in my 2500 Suburban pulling the boat with 85000 miles with just oil changes.

I'm Sorry If I affended anyone by my comments about the 496.

Hey Steve,
Don’t get your feathers so ruffled LOL!!!
Guys like Linnie and me just like the regular old big block stuff.
Most all of the stockers, new or old, black or blue run great until we want more out of them
That’s why I’m taking my time learning about these 496s. As you know, I have a pair that would like a little attention. It’s actually kind of fun to study something new for a change.
Just think, if you would have stepped up to the blue motor (525EFI) apparently you could have run around the Long Island Sound at 80 mph in your Heat rather than the 63-65 mph you got out there everyday with your HO. A 15-17 mph increase with a mere 100hp!!
Things that make you go “Hmmmmmmm???”

Hope all is going well,
Coming out next week but not to Baltimore this time. Actually flying into Richmond, VA??? (never been there)
Quick trip anyway
Dave

YUP he ran it last weekend Great South Bay (LI) Hot Toddy Run.....80....bone stock 525/ITS/XR. He is running next Monday if you want to fly out to see for yourself. Go to the Hot Toddy thread in GD some pics of the 28 and the 35 from the run. I will post a few here
