how fast was your wood free 28 heat when the 600 was bone stock and the b1 props and at what elevation

Chris, we discussed Ray's number quite a bit a few years ago. Here's my thoughts on why they are so good compared to what we are seeing.

First he's at sea level and cool air. My calculations show about a 50 HP gain for these conditions, compared to here. Second it's salt water. I don't really know how much that helps, but some. Third is I believe the water he runs in is quite a bit choppier than what we see. Take a look at the water in his avatar pic. All of my testing is on absolute glass water. Of course the last is he's done a LOT of testing and set up work to get there. I've seen conditions easily affect speed by 4-5 mph.

Not sure why my Heat runs so well but keep in mind that I have the ITS setback. I'm not sure if that contributes to the boats top end. Before I switched the gears from the 1.50 to the 1.36 I was running a B! 28 pitch at 78 mph. It appears that the Heats running at higher elevations and on Lakes can only run 26's with the 1.50 ratio. The salt water is definately more choppy than the lakes that most of you guys are running on and I do believe that it frees the hull a great deal. When the water here is glassy it does not run as well. I find myself over trimming to squeeze out some more and never get it. When the water is choppy, the boat runs best. Also alot of the Nordic guys swear by the Hydromotive P5X's. I don't particularly care for them. I feel as if it make the stern run high and causes the boat to chine walk when I come off the throtttle from a full speed run. I gave up on having that prop worked for top speed. But I do like the way it carries the boat with a load and at cruise speeds.

Not exacty Big screen quality. I was holding the camera and driving at the same time. I wonder if there is a law against filming and driving? Kinda like cell phones and driving.

Just for comparison: at 1.03 in the vid the Garman 182 gps is reading 51.7 knots and the speedo is reading 59-60. If you do calculation of 51.7 x 1.15 = 59.45. So the livorsi speedo and the garman are pretty accurate according to the formula of 1 knot = 1.15 mph.

2009 Wood-free, open bow, Heat.. best speed with a B1 prop was 82.1 mph.. one inch spacer... merc labbed 28 .. at sea level, on Lake Washington. The locals call this Lake Washing Machine, because of the continuing multi-directional 2-3 ft chop.

When the boat was in this state of tune... I got my best speed with a Hering 27x15 at 84.1 mph.

Ray is correct... I get my best speeds on wind blown chop.

What an amazing difference in speed between my old 496HO Heat and yours, that's 82 GPS? I could get 62 in the summer heat and humidity, anything above that was in better conditions. 67 and change was my best...that was downhill LOL!! Tried all the props and it didn't matter.
