Thinking out loud

5 Attachment(s)
1st off, this not an ad in the owners forum, it's just that we are thinking about selling our 2000 Flame, and I'm looking for opinions from Nordic owners as to what they think it would sell for.
It's a tough decision, it's paid for, but I think we might want to go a little bigger:drink:

Any input would be appreciated. I know this is not a good time to sell it but.......

Thanks,
Dean
BTW, it's got 502 MPI w/ about 380 hrs. and all options. It was Nordic's 2000 LA Boat show display boat for Flames, at least that's what I've been told by Lonnie...

Here's some pics of her,

$60,000 to $65,000

L,
So if I can get 65,000 on trade towards a 200,000 boat, I think that's a pretty good trade $$? Is my thinking skewed? I know I could do better on the 200k boat if I sold my Flame outright, and took the cash to the dealer, but it's tough time to try and sell just about anything.....

Thanks,
Dean

What are you looking at?

J,
With the way the boat market is these days, the boats available are just about unlimited.:drink:

I'm looking @ a 38 ft Stepped V-hull w/ staggered, (Maybe not after reading about all the problems with 525 header leaks) power.

Did you end up selling your 35?
Thanks,
Dean

Dwane 01-11-2010 01:05 PM

Dean I was looking this past summer and thats what they were giving me on a trade for my 02.

Dwane 01-11-2010 01:10 PM

Keep it, put new motors in it. Just like new.

Dwane,
They only wanted to give you $65,000 for your 2002 Flame?!
What motors do you have in it, if you don't mind me asking. i think that's what is hurting my $$ value, is my 502 MPIs.

And yes, I'm toying with the idea of putting new motors in it and just keeping it, ( I have a pair of HP500 Carb motors w/ ~ 80 hours on them) that I would "Tweak" a little and install them.

The one dealer I'm dealing with is willing to give me $100,000 trade value for my boat/trailer and the HP500's!

Dean

Dwane 01-12-2010 11:31 AM

Dean, I have 500EFI's with stage 1 Prochargers 5lbs boost 50 hrs on refresh, IMCO drives with two sets of props 36 four blades and 34 five blades, trailer sandblasted and repainted with new bunks and tires.

You're right, there are some very attractive deal out there now. You must be looking a Fountain or a Cig. Whatever you get you will love the staggered after playing in the engine compartment of the Flame. I traded mine, huge convenience factor if a dealer has the one you want. I wouldn't put any more money in the boat. I would trade it in with the engines it has for the boat and power you really want and sell the 500's out right for beer, gas money and poker runs.:drink:

D,
Sounds like your Flame is very HOT!:drink: What speeds are you seeing and how does she handle @ those speeds?

J,
Thanks for the input, and I hear ya on the trade vs. selling out right convenience factor. I've watched your old 35 and a couple of other 35 sit on the net for sale for over a year?
They are great boats, they just don't seem to have a "Cult" following like some other brands......
I sent you a PM.
Thanks,
Dean

Linster 01-13-2010 08:01 PM

Do you need a cult? I found those cult members are pretty superficial. I look at it as how much fun I have, not who I travel with. Just my 2 cents. each there own.

L,
Nay, I nevered needed a cult, I pretty much go my own way. Anyway, looks like we are going ease up on the new boat thing, and keep the Nordic. It's paid for and it's a great boat. Just going to repower it....:drink:
Thanks,
Dean

In2Deep 01-14-2010 12:01 PM

In my book, the 35' Flame, like most Nordics, are by far best bang-for-buck. Period. Not to mention, I think still among the top-tier "best looking" boats on the water, at nearly any price. A day on the water never passes without someone commenting on how nice my Heat looks, and without me feeling the same way. My $.02.

Dean, The fastest I saw last year was 101.6, when we get up around 90 mph you need a little tab it will start bouncing from side to side. I don’t do it to often I've been through motors and drives. We just like to boat around and have a good time. Like IN2DEEP said they are "best looking" boats on the water for the $.

I DIG IT !! 01-14-2010 10:59 PM

Maybe someday my Heat will grow up to be a Flame???

In2deep,
I agree, they are great boats, and my boat is fast for the power it has, (79 MPH w/ 502MPIs), they have a very effiecent bottom. I just have new boat fever with all the deals that are out on the web.:drink:

D,
WOW, that's cooking! We too are just into boating with our kids and friends. I wonder what speeds I would see with ~ 600 hp motors?
Congrats on your set-up, BTW, what HP are your motors?
thanks,
Dean

BTW, what do you have for a boarding ladder?
I can't seem to find one that I can mount to the swim platform, we use a "Rope Ladder" off the ski pylon!

I've struggled to get something new as well. Being mine is a 2000 I was looking at a 2006 Top Gun. Great boat, but mine is paid for, still in great shape so I decided to do some upgrades and keep it. I may dail up some HP this winter as well.

L,
I kinda came to same conclusion, especially with this economy/idiots in DC!:evilb:
Our boat is paid for and it's in great shape, I've got HP500s sitting @ Mystic waiting to be massaged and then I will put them in.
Thanks,
Dean

90,
#6's are not in the upgrade budget!:drink: Seriously, i have to find a solution to this problem. Right now we just have a rope ladder we use on the ski pylon, and it sucks!:evilb:

Dean, If you should change your mind I would be interested in your boat. Looking for a flame in that price range, have found a couple 01's in the mid $70's w/ twin 500 hps, but still undecided. Winter in Utah so I have a few months yet.

Same problem with the Inferno. I'm adding a swim platform to the back with a ladder. Hey do that and you will have the only 37' Flame.
Check this link for some ideas. http://westcoastoffshoreunlimited.com/
