06 Heat set-up questions

Well I finally jumped on the Nordic bandwagon. The wife and I bought an 06 Heat open bow. The boat is out of the AZ, Ca, area and likely set up to run that altitude. We are a little higher in Utah at about 4500 ft. Any set-up suggestions on prop etc. Also been seeing a lot of chat on x dimensions etc. Do I need to address anything there. Boat has the 496 ho w/ Bravo x. Thanks

welcome

Welcome.
What lake do you boat on in Utah?

What prop does the boat have on it now?
What gear ratio is the outdrive?

Congrats, welcome! Like to see more of us up in the frozen mountains (enough already).

Try what you got & get some #'s with a GPS and the tach. Go down a size for every 300 rpm you need to gain. So if your at a 28 turning 4200, go down to a 24. That get's you to 4800. Then lab it & you should be money.
I would HIGHLY recommend Merc lab it. They can get it on the nuts if your #'s are accurate.

At that altitude you may need to re-gear the drive to 1.65:1. That boat would normally run a 24" Bravo 1 at sea level, 26" if it were a really good running boat. Run it with a 24 and see what it does. My guess is you won't get near the rpm you need, which is at least 4800.

22 or labbed 24 here in our area with optimum rpm 4900-5000.
I've tweaked 2 Heat HO setups here at our altitude and that's where we ended up at.
You can get away with a stock 24 at the less than 4400 feet lakes such as Powell, Utah Lake, Willard etc. but Deer Creek, Gorge, Bear and any of the 5500+ lakes you will need the 22 or lab 24.
One I just added a little helper to (3.3L Whipple, cam, head work, etc...:evilb:) and it's back with a 28@~5300 or P5-X 27@~5300)
One inch spacer helped a bunch here but it was an 05; Not sure if they changed anything in 06...

Good info! Thanks I really appreciate it. We will be up at Pineview
quite a bit when the winter finally loses it's grasp, hope to see some of you.

oboyskibum 04-14-2010 02:38 PM

Hopefully summer comes quick now that snowbasin is closing up shop soon. I am sure we will see you at pineview.

Nordicflame 04-14-2010 02:42 PM

Might have our own Nordic Regatta :evilb:

chase8 04-14-2010 02:44 PM

Ya look us up, If ya do Rum n Coke I'll mix you a beverage.

90mphRAGE 04-14-2010 02:55 PM

I like the idea of a local regatta. Pineview isn't the closest for me, but what's a few more gallons of petrol if there's free rum & coke!:drink:

oboyskibum 04-14-2010 09:01 PM

Rum & Coke, Crown & Coke, Gin & soda I'm there. It sounds like our own little Regatta in the making. I like the entrance fee.:evilb:

chase8 04-14-2010 11:24 PM

A Regatta would be a blast! I would be very interested in setting something up. The yacht club at Pineview sponsors a light festival every summer about mid Aug. They drape their boats (mostly cruisers) with lights etc and cruise around the lake after dark. It is a ball, and we usually stay overnight. Anyway, it would be a festive time for a Regatta. I'll bring the Cap'n Morgan.

Hey Chase,

Was your previous boat a ... Chase? If so what color. I saw a blue with blue checkers on it at Pineview last summer. Any chance that was you?

chase8 04-15-2010 10:01 AM

Ours is a black 26'. It has been a great boat, never had a problem with it. It has the 454 mag mpi w/ a supercharger. Runs near 80 at Lake Powell. Not sure how long I will be able to run the Nordic w/the stock 496 HO. 60 to 65 mph just doesn't get it done.

DesertRage 04-15-2010 10:09 AM

It sounds like you've been infected with the speed disease too!

I'm sure we'll see you up there. We usually spend two weekends a month at Pineview. Congrats on the new boat, I'm sure it's a nice one!

Nordicflame 04-15-2010 12:17 PM

I was up there Sunday and was amazed to see it still iced over
Probably gone by now with the nice weather but be the water may be slightly chilly...
Bring on the sun! We're up for the Nordic gathering :ernaehrung004:

Ya, we drove by there 2 weeks ago on our way snowmobiling and it was melting off pretty good. Two weeks prior there were still people ice fishing out there. A week in the 70's and it will be about gone. Get the boats waxed up!

90mphRAGE 04-15-2010 04:01 PM

I'm shootin for a "post-storage" test this weekend at Pootah Lake if the weather holds. Gotta verify no glitches before the 600+ mile tow to Desert Storm.
Definately need to set up that regatta, & all hook up one day at Havasu for those going.

chase8 04-16-2010 11:29 AM

Where is "Pootah" Lake? Also have you done Desert Storm before? It sounds fun with all the high end boats and all, but I hear Havasu is a damn zoo. Guess i'm just getting old and a little lame.

Pootah a.k.a. Utah Lake. It's close & thawed & big, just a bit brown.
Never been for DS, but been many other times including spring break. Too many novices then, but I imagine DS is a little classier. I'm not worried about a $500K boat hitting me!

:drink:It's a zoo, but I like to go see the animals:drink:
