Don't know about boxes on a Flame...I do know from talking to the guy who built the fastest flame that I know of ...119 mph... that the boat really likes the drives 1" shorter than stock.

He said that it made the boat handle better, and was worth 3-5 mph.
He also says that going 2" shorter makes the boat unstable, and difficult to get on plane.

tried 2" shorter on mines (xr with nose cones), and had trouble getting it to plane off. Switched over to 1" shorter and fixed that problem. Boat is much more stable now at speed, but did not gain any additional speed.
