How to reset the rub rail rubber???

How to reset the rub rail rubber???
On a 2006 Rage, the rubber insert on the rub rail has been pushed in a few places from bumping and isnt even, Can I pull out the rubber and reset it or will removing it damage the rubber? Could heating it up help?
