Dean I have the wind aways and I am trying to either build a complete new windshield oralso do the wind screens from Kal. I think getting hit in the face with wind at 90mph gets old quick. I have sent pictures of the windshield I designed to Lonnie and they are considering building it for me. It would look killer. I don't know but maybe LIOPA has a way of posting a picture of it?

Re: Wind deflectors for 35 Flame
I was out in my Heat this past weekend, and forgot to bring my Oakleys. Only had my reading glasses, talk about miserable. My eyes were watering like a cook chopping onions. I've only been out 3 or 4 times this season, and I had forgotten how bad the wind is our boats with the low profile windsheilds they have.
It's so hot here in the summer, you really don't mind it as much during prime season, but even then it gets old. LIOPA, put me down for a set of Kal Kustom deflectors. Somebody had a jpeg of them on here, but I've done several searches with no luck. Hook a brother up  will ya. Steve |

Re: Wind deflectors for 35 Flame
OK guys here is the info ........ pictures will soon follow.
Kal Kustom has been trying to get NORDIC (Orville) to redesign the wind cowling's on the 25,28 and 35 for some time now. NORDIC won't budge. They (he) feels it is a distinct signature of the boat line. Which....IT IS.....not very functional but a trademark signature. The 25 & 28 cowling's work a bit better because of the increase rake angle of the Lexan. The 35 is dreadfully in your face windy. SO........Kal Kustom designed a very high quality bolt on system that works extremely well. It is custom made to fit the exact curvature of the 3 boats. It folds/slides down behind the back side of the original cowling enabling it to be hidden and pulled up and out to tailored hight based on who is behind it height wise. The taller or shorter you are you adjust them to that level. The 25 and 28 use the same screen The 35 is slightly different because of rake and curvature points. You can purchase them through me if you choose. They are a dealer option item. I am the East Coast Nordic Dealer and our number is 631-724-8707 if you would like to order a set. Our email address is [email protected] if you have further questions. They are available in CLEAR or SMOKE are approximately 24" wide and are.......$500.00 a pair. YUP....$500.00 ... but are made by order and are very high quality with all billet hardware and thick Lexan. The main thing is they work and work very well at high speed. They also enable you to use your existing covers that you have for the boat without removing the deflectors evry time you cover the boat. I will post detailed pics in a day or so........I hope this helps everyone. |

Good luck...trying to get Orval to change the design of his boats is like trying to move a mountain. In a way I don't blame him, but there are some changes that would improve his product line.

I was the one that posted the pics of the windscreens on my 28 and now I can’t find them. I’ll keep looking.
They work very well but a couple of worthy notes. Hopefully they are not like this anymore but if your going to spend the money read the following. Not bashing, just facts and these do not come from Nordic :( I paid $425 (in 2001) for mine and then I spent another $50 to have the Lexan replaced. When I received them they looked like they had been cut out with a jigsaw and had slight cracks where the holes went through that would have grown quickly. The color was more of the green/gray smoke rather than the brownish smoke of the windshield. Pretty crappy experience to say the least. Once I had the new screens fabricated in the right color and polished edges they looked great and worked very well with a few more mods. Mine did not require drilled holes in the windshield but rather used setscrews that bite into the Lexan. I had to loctite these because they kept falling out; maybe this has changed. You could easily drill and thru bolt them which I would suggest if your going to be running 90. I never had mine up when running hard anyway. The knobs to tighten them also take the occasional ride around the cockpit; If you loctite these you can’t tighten them. On the plus side of this, I spoke with Karl personally and he apologized and had a check cut to me to cover my expenses in a day. Hopefully they took notice and fixed these issues. Once this was all resolved all was well. As far as the price goes, although it has a somewhat a unique hinging device, it seems the price is a bit stretched. Also these are for the Flame and when installed on a Heat or Rage they stick pretty much straight up and don’t match the contour of the boat very well. This is not an adjustable feature due too the design of the hinge. Also if you have a dash compass they will not fold under. Personally I would not run over 80 with any screen up (even though I have.) The risk of if breaking and severely severing your throat is a little scary to me   Like I said, I’m not bashing; this was just my personal experience. Windaways and goggles for the fast blast for me. Here’s a pic of the slightly customized Windaways RV gave to me with the boat. Haven’t tried them yet though. Dave |
