We're up basically every weekend - we'll be up for the week of the 4th too.

Here's my 2 yr. old from this past weekend - seems like a natural to me!? :D

DMAX 06-19-2007 04:45 PM

This is my first year on the lake, any pointers as to lake etiquette and party spots would be helpful Thanks.

Everything you know about the ocean or river riding..... Legally wise... forget it... Lake Winni is awesome but the problem is the Marine Patrol are extremely strict... Young cowboys looking to meet a quota..... And pretty much just assume every boat out there (other then high performance) are weekend warriors / or rentals.... Don't assume they know where they are or what they are doing...

Rules of thumb:

1. Never follow someone thinking they know the markers... Usually they are following someone else who doesn't.

2. Consider everyone out there a weekend warrior (someone who just drops in on a holiday and doesn't have a clue)

3. When in doubt that you might be breaking the 150 ft. rule. Go to headway speed... The Marine Patrol literally pulled me over and said "how far do you think you were from that boat?" I said about 150 ft... He said "no, I think it was more like 140".. thank god no ticket, but just an example...

Stick to those you should be fine.... The Lake in my humble opinion is one of the best places on earth.... Always love the sights, the boats, and the happenings all over.

As far as party spots.. there are 2 hands down as the best:
1. the Naswa beach bar (but heavily patrolled and congested)
2. Braun Bay. North West on your chart, left of Trexlers Marina - Long Island. Great sandy bottom and always a great time. Volley ball, boats, beer, babes..... :D :drink: It also gets crowded but just bring food and drinks and plan on spending the day and seeing ALOT of people and boats... You wade around in the water up to your waist and meet tons of people.. Always a good time.

Again, welcome and keep posting!:drink: :D

It statements like this is why Ive been fighting a speed limit law in NH for 2 years I dont want to sound like a **** or anything but if you got pulled over you deserved it....... if people stayed away from other people the tree huggers wouldn't have as much to ***** about!!! Winies a nice place but I choose to stay in a different part of the State to many IDIOTS ( exspecailly on the weekends) if you really want to enjoy Winni wait till Sept or take a tuesday off

Again not to piss anyone off but the things that happen on winnie are effecting the rest of the state lakes and it's a sore subject with me!!

DoTheMath 06-20-2007 08:53 AM

Just use common sense. Think about what you are doing WHEN you are doing it and you'll be fine. The 150' rule is a MUST follow, for common courtesy as well as keeping the MP and others off your back. It is a great place - been on the lake since I was 10mo. old and have seen lots of changes, some good - some, well... maybe a bit less-then-good. I would also consider joining an organization like NHRBA (www.nhrba.com), it will get you in "the right loop" of what's-what on the lake. Aside from that, enjoy it - be safe and be couretous and you'll never want to be any place else in the summer!

Hottrucks 06-20-2007 09:04 AM

Nice call Math I have been a member of nhrba.com since the beginning..... I guess i may have been misunderstood?? It's not that I want anyone to stay away I just want people to start to show better judgement beginning on Winnie. What happens there really effects things that happen thru out the state. Marine patrol has there hands full being understaffed and with the # of boats getting larger it means more congestion for all of us.... a good attitude and some courtesy will take you a long way and protect our rights to have fun.......

With some luck maybe a bunch of us can get together and burn some hotdogs and burgers

On a side note be sure to check the speed limit area out between the islands I'm not exactly sure where they are but I bet some others can jump in

cowisl 06-20-2007 03:04 PM

Hope to see everyone this weekend

WING TRANSPORT 07-12-2007 08:52 AM

I am taking the family up for a week of r&r on the lake boating and skiing and such. Can anyone tell me where I might find the various rules and regs for the lake? I will pick up a new Bizers chart when we arrive. We rented a house on the lake in Wolfeboro. Thanks in advance for any information..

DoTheMath 07-12-2007 10:22 AM

Well, you can start here - lots of info and general links: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/frmain.shtml

Or go right to the Marine Patrol site for the specifics:
http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/ss/

Either way - to big hot buttons with the MP, noise and the 150 foot rule - try and not break either one and you should be all set! :) Other than that - enjoy the lake and all it has to offer - as well as your vacation.

Mark

WING TRANSPORT 07-12-2007 04:07 PM

Thanks for the links, Lots of info...
I am not sure about the 86db noise at 50ft. My 23 Scarrab is pretty rich at times. Do you think that will be a problem as long as I am cautious? Thanks again

DoTheMath 07-13-2007 10:15 AM

Yeah, just watch were you are running hard... see the MP's pull back a bit and drop the noise. They are "testing" between Bear Isl and Meredith Neck and down by Rattlesnake Isl. and Sleepers Isl. for the proposed speed limit, so those areas will be ripe with MP's. If you stick to the 150' limits and be courteous, you'll be fine. Heck the old "Big Soldier" is running up there these days (47' OL with big power) and he seems to be doing ok. ;)

Enjoy your trip.

Mark

WING TRANSPORT 07-13-2007 05:45 PM

Thank you, we will sure try..............

VtSteve 07-13-2007 08:05 PM

It's been 10 years since I was over at Winni, spending some 30 years on the lake. There were quite a few go fast boats way back, but certainly not with the engines and size as are available now.

My advice, is to just use common sense. Realize that lakes are for everyone, and you'll have to deal with everything from cayaks and canoes to huge cabin cruisers. Be courteous, and you'll earn the respect of the MP. After awhile, they'll get to know who the trouble makers are, and the majority will be fine.

After an hour and a half ordeal of changing our raw water pump impeller, on a hot motor, in the hot sun, we finally made it to the Naswa from Alton Bay for a late lunch, and it was worth it, take a look at these pics.
