I talked with a buddy last night that leaves his 40' cruiser at Brewers in Deep River. Two things came out of the conversation...

He mentioned his props have taken a beating going up and down the river due to the crap in the water. He said at any given point there are logs floating around and even so sitting in his slip at the moment! Like he mentioned, if they're their, it's hard to avoid them. And this coming from someone in a 40' cruiser, so you know he's not running at crazy speeds.

The other thing we talked about was doing a weekend trip over to Montauk Yacht Club. I guess he's been over there quite a few times and says it's awesome. Slip fee gets you full access to everything and claims the night life is great as well. We talked about running over there for Memorial Day weekend, or possibly the 4th of July. He's traveled the world and for him to highly recommend it, it must be a good time! Still thinking about it, but it could be a lot of fun if several of us made a weekend out of it... Might be too hot at night w/o AC for the 4th, so Memorial Day might be a better idea.

Let me know if you guys are interested as well.

Scot, just a couple comments here. This time of year, there is a lot of crap floating in the river, which eventually washes out to sea, or gets beached on the banks of the river....During June, July, and August, the river is very clean as far as logs and debris goes. I run the river ALOT( ask Frank), and have for years. During summer months, Ive never hit a thing and running at speed limit . Thats going from Middletown to Claudios and back. ...Spring and fall is when the river can be tough on a prop if your not paying attention, other than that, your good.

I like the Memorial Day idea and will get back to you on that!

I know all about the river debris this time of the year... that's the main reason I don't want to go out Sat. I've seen a lot of crap floating around the last week or two... even down by my house.

Regarding the MYC idea, we're really thinking about it. My buddy Brendan is real cool. Probably mid 40's, the Australian surfer type and is always a laugh. He produces commercials and travels all over the world doing so... likes to have a good time, so I trust him when he says Memorial Day and the 4th over there cant be missed. Says the showers, bikes, etc are all included so you dont need anything other than to be ready to party.

+1. Give the river a couple weeks and it's very clean overall. We do quite a bit of "river days" up to Haddam area etc and I've never hit anything either......although I probably just "F'd" myself for this year!!!

I too will run the Memorial Day idea by Jen and get back to ya....

I hear The Surf Club (Montauk) is on fire for the holiday weekend as well, if you're into the Hamptons party scene anyway... Could be a good time!

I'm open to other weekend trips too!

Love Mauntauck but as soon as they find out what kind of boat you have they will be booked. They want cruisers or fishing boats they do not like loud go fast types. When I went last year we dock behind Liars saloon. I love it over there we just neeed to find a good small marina that we can get in good with.

I asked him about that Frank, he said no problem... he said there's always some big dollar loud go-fast boats over there and there's no issue. He did mention though that there's a lot of cash over there and expect to be in one of the smaller boats. He said his 40x14' cruiser is definitely on the smaller side.

Again, I'm open to suggestions, but I'd like to do a weekend trip or two this spring/fall while the night time temps are tolerable.
