reasons you havent joined the CPBA yet
Ok guys we have a great group of VERY loyal CPBA members and that core group has been wondering why the rest of the CT boys havent joined the club yet.
We have some input from a few of you( non joiners) it was very helpful to us and we are about to make some simple changes to help boost membership. So far no one I have talked to has mentioned price as a reason. Most have simply said they hadnt had the time to get it done. some suggestions so far: Make membership, decals, and T shirts payable with paypal Make the application shorter and easier to fill out Have some events for us to take part in. get some super hot CPBA girls (That was me though) I want to know if these are the same reasons the rest of you havent joined yet. The Sad truth is that events cost money, and insurance for a 1 day event can cost $2500 or more. The club doesn't currently have that kind of money to put on our first real event. we had allot of people say they wanted T shirts, so I had them made and they sold OK, but many who said they wanted them and even gave sizes never bought, It was the same with Decals. Had some more of them sold there would have been events this year It has been the same core group of hardcore boaters from CT supporting the club the entire time. So please post up and let us know what we need to do to attract more of the boaters in CT who we see every week and in all the treads, but havent joined yet. This Is A club for Connecticut boaters, By Connecticut boaters! There WILL be elections and the club WILL be run by the majority (hopefully not as badly as the state LOL) So please post your opinions |
Jeff,
I know you've heard my 2 cents (and I'll be more than happy to join when you get the PP set up), but I'll add a little more... My first thoughts (playing devils advocate here) are as follows: What does joining the club gain me? Why bother having "club" events if the group has to come up $2500+ for insurance to meet up? Sounds like events or even maintaining the club/membership will be quite costly. The reason I ask these questions is there seems to be a fairly tight group of locals and regulars that meet up and do things together without the cost or need to organize any further. We all carry our own insurance (or at least we should :D), so I believe that covers the liability end of things since we are organizing as individuals rather than as a club. Like I said, I don't mind joining or supporting the club, but I'm also guessing that the few dozen or so regulars in the area wouldn't be enough to support the monetary requirements needed to do things the club might be envisioning. If you can make the answer to these questions crystal-clear to potential members, I would think the club would likely get more support. Again, just playing devils advocate and trying to help. |
My brother and I are joining...you should see it this week. Jeff you need to call to remind me....Thats half my problem.
|
No one else has any input for me?
Thanks moses can it possibly be that all you guys are just forgetting once you get busy?? I have heard that a bunch of times now |
there is really no reason not to join...if prospective members are worried about $25 you are in the wrong hobby...
my brother, scott, and myself are the latest members... the purpose of the club is to organize gatherings of people whom share the same interest. it takes time and money to organize such events. again if $25 is too much...you should re-evaluate your passion i hope more CT boaters join... |
F-U ct. boys seeing as we dont have a group and seems its only CT guys to join this :ban: :evilb:

Your always welcome with us mike. Your like an honorary Ct boater already you'll really be part of the crew once you join.
Then we CAN'T get rid of you. heres the link to the app. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...plication.html dont worry about anything but your name, adress and email although we may need a boating cert number in the future for events. we can worry about that later if we do. Were gonna change the app soon anyway to be easier. we'll be happy to have our first out of state member! we were at 20 members on saturday thanks to justin his bro nate dog and scot. |

Scot I see your point and thanks for joining on saturday. I know you have a better appreciateion after us all hanging out talking, but let me adress this further for others. While its all fine and good to hang with a couple local boaters, the club offers much more, While it will offer discounts on items at local hot spots in the future, it also offers the ability to organize with boaters you probably would never get to know otherwise, we have boaters in stamford, Old saybrook, Southington, Meriden, Simsbury,Mysitc, Branford all over the state. Many of them have there own little spots they frequent that you or myself may not know about and we wouldnt get invited if it werent for being brothers in the club. Now we can get together at meetings, find those great places schedule a run and go as a group. (Theres nothing better than local kowledge on how to get in or out of a place) You SHOULD also be able to count on your borthers in the club to lend a hand when needed. If your out on the water and break down I would expect that ANY member close by who was on the water would be there quickly to lend a helping hand, a part or possibly a tow in. Even if your just at the launch and need hand dropping your boat in etc. when you see that CPBA decal you know who to ask for help. As for events we plan on doing some good for charities as well as having a hell of allot of fun. It just takes some time and planning we didnt have this season. Winter should be good to us in that respect. |
maybe if we keep this thread near the top it will gain more visibility...so here is a bump.

I think that theres actually an equal ratio of sutphen owners to cigarette and cigarette variants in this club.
Not that any of the sutphen owners currently have my back in the new thread in the North east section. Bunch of NON BOAT ROCKERS.lol |

I just printed out the application today and it will be on it's way
shortly, Jeff. And you can add another Sutphen to the list! Sorry Sick, I have to do it! But, keep up the good work on the New Thread....even an old guy like me needs a good laugh every know and then. I'll ask Airtime and Knot Right (Artie & Gerry) next time I see them if they want to join. There's a couple of nut cases to add to all this madness!:drink: |
welcome aboard guys:drink:
|
Jim "Shaken not Stirred" ? The guy with the 353 is Francis Marfyak. |
"Shakin not Stirrred" is about 6 slips from my parents, and directly across from my boat. Its a 353 with twin 502's, been on it a ton of times. There is also a 382 formula at Hayes called "Hyperactive" I think he has twin 454's in her.
|
shakin is only a 353...are you positive. god that boat looks long for a 35'.
I have seen the 382. Its on the backside of Hays in the water. At least thats where I saw it. |
