We will be hanging around the State Marina area. No real plans yet.
|
I should be finished the windshields by then and hope to be on the river for memorial weekend. Putting in at neshaminy ramp. Flag me down. he kevin, you runnin a new to you boat this year if I remember? Good to hear you chime in.
|
Im going to try to get the cig in. Going to be tight. Trying to launch 2 boats in one weekend..
|
How do you drive 2 boats at once? LOL I'll try to post what time I will be at the ramp if you need a hand.
|
OK, two sections of the windshields are in. I haven't figured out how I'm gonna finish off the frames where I had to gring out the old ones but they look great compared to what I was trying to look thru before.
Planning a trip down to the Chesepeke bay for the weekend of June 25th and 26th. We usually stay at the Holiday Inn in Northeast MD and put in at the marina next to the Goose. Leaving Philly early that morning since it's only an hours tow from here. Figured I would put this out there if anyone else might want to join in for that weekend. Cruise down to Jellies and spend the day into the evening? I should be hitting the river after this weekend. Have a funeral to go to and still have to get the third section in this week I hope! |
I was out at Neshaminy today. Boat ran perfect. UNTIL I added some gas at Curtins.. I'm not point fingers until I go through some trouble shooting and diagnostics. First time dropping in at Neshaminy, and it has to the PALM SPRINGS of boat ramps. nice.
|
Man that sucks if it's bad fuel from curtains. It's probly been sitting in their tank since last season. I hope you get it cleared out without too much trouble. That's why I never fuel up on the water unless it dire need. What are you doin up Philly way?
As for me, windshields are in. I still need to finish off the frames but that won't hold me back. I have a check list of minor things to go over while I'm waiting for my props to return from Murphys. 2 weeks I guess? |
That cat has to be the fastest boat I've heard of, around Jersey anyway. I need to change my sig because life changed, and I'm keeping the boat in Upper Bucks. Neshaminy is the closest place to to water for me now.
|
Wave me down if you see me out there. Neshaminy ramp is great. As long as I am theres plenty of ramp even at dead low tide. I've never went off the end. No, I'm not the fastest boat out there. There's some guys around that really know how to bring it and have the power to do it. There's a few new comers this year too Ive heard. I think I can hold my own though and I'm new to the game but learning fast. My pockets are kinda shallow though unlike some others out there. We've got a few of us going down to the Chesepeke Bay on the 25th if your interested?
|
If you have to buy gas on the water, go to Dredge Harbor. High test fuel that is changed over quite frequently. Even the NJ State Police get there fuel there all year round!!
|
Kev is that because you use all the fuel to keep it circulating. Monday when i was on the island i thought i saw a sutphen. May have been quin. Looked to have a different paint job. Boat is much quieter kev. I got pulled over going home monday on land and was given a hard time about not having a class A license Commercial or non commercial. He just wanted a class A license. does anyone here have a class A in the area.
Dave |
By the way i only got a fine for no trailer inspection.
|
Class A? How big was your rig? Pa Troopers? Where where you pulled over? Trailer inspection? Man they must have been told to start bringin in the fine dollars. What a target we make I guess everyone thinks we're rich? Guess we all have to go to school and get a class A licence now? WTF!
|
Dave,
Where did you get stopped? What is the registration weight on your trailer? I thought that the class A was only required if you were over 10,000 lbs of trailer weight. |
I saw that Sutphen out on mem. day too. not sure if it was quins boat or not. i saw it from a distance adn couldnt see the driver.
here is class A from DMV..... does this example below mean that if your trailer is capable of towing 15,500 lbs (boat your not actually that heavy), that you need a class A ??? say your trailer is overrated for your boat (like mine is), or you are towing an empty trailer ? are they just going by whats printed on the trailers' owners card ?? CLASS A (minimum age 18): Required to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, where the vehicle(s) being towed is/are in excess of 10,000 pounds. Example: Recreational Vehicle, when the towing vehicle is rated at 11,000 pounds and the vehicle towed is rated at 15,500 pounds (total combination weight of 26,500 pounds). |
Mark you are right. Any vehicle towing a trailer rated over 10000 needs the class A even if you are under the 26001 mark.
If they want they can weigh you And that could open more crap. If you are over the 10000 pounds and dont have a class A. The cop said he could take me out of service now, take me to a weigh station, but said he would most likely give me a fine for not haveing the trailer inspected. He sent me on my way and i got the fine in a few days. My trailer is registered for 15000 pounds. If you are registered for 10000 you would be ok. I have to have it weighed to lower the rating to 10000, I tried to reregister it during the week ,it is just so much bull . I have been researching it all week. Ill get it all fixed eventually. I was at 413 and new falls road. Bristol twsp In the CDL manual it says recreational vehicles exempt, But when i call the state that is for campers only. I dont know if non commercial is the same way. I really did not know there was non commercial ratings like that. I thought it always went to CDL . The biggest problem is now if this cop sees me again soon will he pick me out again and i will get nailed. Im not hard to miss. Also I wonder if he was looking for a DUI , with boating and everything. Lucky i was not drinking. Even a little could have been bad. |
The cop pulled me over for the reason i was pulling the boat with a half ton truck, so dont worry to much fireboat.
|
Not too worried. So he was a local yocal from Bristol Twp. My Fire ID usually helps a little and my rig looks pretty legit so your right, stop towing with a 1/2 ton truck. That sticks out! He might have thought you stole the boat and trailer? See you out there, flag me down. Waiting for my props to come back. Sent them to Murphy's, I hear they're pretty good and fast?
|

No problem with the bay, just trying to let SlickNick now that the inn is probably full!!!
|
Probably won't be able to get dockage at The Inn.
|
We usually stay at the Holiday Inn 5 minutes from The Goose. We'll be down early Saturday morning and go out Sat and Sun. Trailer down, the HI has plenty of parking for trucks and boats.

Anybody going out today 6/9 ? I will be driving this 500 dollar wreck ( Skater not done ) , stop and say hi , be @ River winds
Larry |
I gotta work tonight and waiting for my props to come back. Not bad for $500. I'll take it off your hands when your done with it. Wheres River winds?
|
You drice right past it all the time . Across from PHL airport , west deptford cove . It is my beater , 260 merc , going to install 383 stroker Merc , kind of sleeper . 65 MPH I hope . Could you image the guy I beat smoke with this including the grill on back telling his friends this wreck beat him !
|
OK I know where your talking about. I've heard that cove called a half dozen things. I never went in there, any water problems? It looks kinda small from the river. How long before your Skater is ready?
|
My boat might be done late summer . As far as cove low tide dont go to back other than that you will be fine , many large boats and I have been going there for yrs . Just keep in mind when you go in favor the right side . Stop by and say hi
Larry |
OK, reservations made at the Holiday Inn Express in North East MD. Still rooms available. Close to the Goose for ramp. We'll be heading down early Sat morning and staying till Monday.
|
I should be out on the river tomorrow for a little shake down run. Figure around noon. Got alot done today workin on a long punch list of minor fixes. Man the mess that the windshield job made of the entire boat. I've been vacuming for days. It was worth it though. I think they look great, best of all I can see where I'm going now.
No takers on the Chesepeke over this weekend? 6/25- 6/26? |
OK, finally got the boat in the water after a fiasco and dangerous situation. The reciever snapped in half as I was coming to a stop down a slight hill. Reciever? The part that the ball bolts to, anyway it was bumpy and all of the sudden the thing snapped where the bend is, trailer hits the street and is sliding behind the truck. I had to let it hit the back of the truck and stop it. Luckily I was able to crank it up and find the new reciever and ball in a local auto parts store while my son watched over the boat sitting in the middle of the road. Thanks to the MANY ignoramouses blowing their horns at us while we got it repaired. Record time I think, 45 minutes and we where rolling again. This was before we went out.
Anyway boat ran great. One small oil leak that I can't tell where its coming from yet. Got it to 110 but too much crap in the water to push it too long. Clean it up and we're ready to go. |
Nice. I wish I was going to be around, but work called and I fly out on Friday for a month.
|
Well, great day on Saturday. Had a good time at Jellies. Not too many boats out. Well boats that mattered anyway.
Everything was going good, heading back running easy about 55-60 mph and all of the sudden, lost the STBD drive. WTF, this is getting OLD! I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Anyone want to buy a used boat? I can't keep up with this crap and I'm not havin near enough fun for the azz ache. Takin it up to Bandit AGAIN! Feels like I have grooves worn in the turnpike. Needless to say the weekend was cut short, AGAIN! |

This reminds me of this thread that just came up a few weeks ago. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...e-boating.html Does this mean i can have my parking spot back now?:evilb: jk |
Hi Howard, I was wondering where your boat was? First come first serve on the spot I guess, LOL.
Took the drive apart yesterday, snapped the verticle shaft right at the upper gear set. Looks like just the shaft, tower and shift fork. Thinking I got off cheap this time? All the gears look good. Lots of metal though, so real good cleaning is needed. Should only be down for a week. Parts are ordered and should be here on Thursday. Gives me a chance to locate the oil leak too. Same drive I thrashed last season. Thinking maybe it might have had a hairline fracture that just showed itself now? Last season it was the upper gear set Who knows? Like the link, how true it is! |

How'd it run before the drive issue. Hopefully you had a good speed run down there. Up here the river is just full of crap. |
Engine wise I think I'm on top of that, everything seems to be fine(knock on wood). Apears that the drives are the weak link. I'm gonna try to lay off it this season so I can sell the Imcos SC's I have now at the end of the season and step up to the SCX's. Much stronger upper gears and run them with my SC lowers. Otherwise I'm gonna keep popping these. I'm running at the upper edge of their HP range so I'm not surprized really. I hope your thinks work out, nothing serious I hope? Is your boat ready to go other than that? Heard you got 80's out of it? NICE! I cruise at 80 at 4K rpm. Actually 60-70- is a better cruise comfort wise. The rollers sneak up on you at 80, next thing you know your airborn, not good! Got 115 out of it so far. Still has some more to go. My builder says it shoud/could be a 130 mph boat. So long as I have drives holding together, LOL.
He just informed me that the upper gear set is no good either because the shaft play destroyed the brass rings, not replacable on their own, the gears themselves are fine. Murcury way of sticking it to you, the whole time due to their gears being JUNK! ARG! |
Damn, too bad. I am probably going to move up to an SCX upper this coming winter. Just feel like I am rolling the dice with this SC upper.
