Woohoo! More ways to get revenue...I know a few people that will definitely have problems this year...but then again, they deserve it..

kreed 06-17-2011 12:53 PM

Pat you SOB.......I do NOT deserve that. Youve got some nerve! :lolhit:..........Great artlcle BTW Jay, everyone REALLY has to be careful.

Yup Yup...... I could name a couple "High Performance", juiced up, meatheads that should get caught EVERY weekend. (Relax Frank...... I'm not talking about you).

In all seriousness..... I might actually launch out of Niantic that weekend. The DEP/State Police tend to like my boat due to the stupid "Name" on the back....even if I'm doing nothing wrong!

innerrage 06-17-2011 03:21 PM

no worrys my cousin is a state detective got a get out of jail card he told me to keep on the boat:evilb:

30ctsutphen 06-17-2011 07:54 PM

Now I wonder how this works, let's say your rafter up at an island your now running just hangin and your sauced!

Are you Breaking the law?

In a car you'd be screwed!

In a boat you could be staying put for days and have plenty of time to sober up

That's a good question. I've wondered the same.

I "believe" as long as the boat isn't RUNNING you're fine. I think you can be as trashed as you want anchored....as long as you're not being a total weinie! :lolhit:

HIGH LIFE 06-18-2011 09:06 AM

As a side note to this situation, if you have a CDL the BAC is .04 not .08 on the road, must be the same on water !!! "HIGH LIFE"

innerrage 06-18-2011 04:24 PM

talked to dep today at a hazmat sight i was on, and he said as long as the key is not in th ignition , you should be fine if it is in th e ignition, then they can get you for intent to operate, and yes on the cdl thats why i dont drink anymore.:drink:

I have my cdl too! The .04 is b.s.

It should be the other way around. cld more skilled drivers = better drunk drivers!!!LOL:angry-smiley-038: but I never understood the. 04

Yup a buddy of mine got bagged this way last year! didnt take the blow test and lost his license, He would have been over the CDL limit anyway, WTF if I drove my 69 firebird for 5 minutes and breathed in the Ethanol laced gas Id be above that limit!

LOL

Sucks cause hes a good guy whos pretty damn responsible with drinking and driving IMO. .04 isnt Much at all!

30ctsutphen 06-18-2011 09:40 PM

I always leave my Keys in the ignition when I am anchored and rafted just in case it breaks loose or something happens where I need to move the boat slightly in a hurry. Doesnt mean I Intend to go anywhere Its just a safety thing in the event of a emergency.

I think in a car even if the keys arent in the ignition but your in it your screwed arent you?

I really cant remember the law, Stuff like that makes it tough though because someone whos just trying to sleep it off and needs to get in the car to do it and be safe, can't.

So I bet alot of people say screw it and drive before they likely would.

Boating isnt like driving either theres not really any way to call a taxi to get home. It would cost you $1500.00 to get home from LI via a car taxi service.LOL

Gladhe8er 06-18-2011 10:12 PM

I believe in a car you have to be in the drivers seat with the key in the ignition to get screwed.

SS930 06-20-2011 06:44 AM

Be careful out there this coming weekend guys, I'm sure they will be pulling people over for any excuse they can find... like lack of muffers and tacking a DUI on the back side.

kreed 06-20-2011 06:59 AM

Scot, that rig gonna be ready? :party-smiley-004:

As I said in the other thread, I think Mike is going to come down to give me a hand with the blower so it should be back together on Sunday AM. I'd like to take it out to do some testing, but I am concerned about being chosen to donate to the state...

i have hardly seen any dep or river police patrolling and im out all weekend on the boat. not sure why this coming weekend would be any different. i think the news, and people are just creating rumors to make boaters nervous and more cautious.

SS930 06-20-2011 08:00 AM

Justin,

Not the case. I was talking to a cop friend Sat. night, the state has issued grant money for a weekend show of force on the water. Many of the town cops are following suite. Kind of like a state wide check point on the water if you will.

If you're drinking or doing something slightly illegal this coming weekend, be very careful! It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out performance boats will be targeted. I would suggest being super careful around the lower part of the river down to the mouth... and leaving rafting areas like Hamburg Cove or the Thimbles.

this weekend may be different but i remember way back when (1 month ago) people were saying that dep was gonna hit the river hard this summer to make revenue. the fact is i have never seen the river so empty of police and dep.

kreed 06-20-2011 08:18 AM

Well, out in full force or not, they look for boats like ours. I will be extra careful next weekend for sure.....

zzzzzz 06-20-2011 10:07 AM

YUP, Work your whole life, do the right thing, maybe accumulate a little wealth to enjoy yourself with your family, And because of that your "perceived" as a bad thing and your penalized for it in today's America.
