Distances from the CT River
#1
I thought I'd post up some distances to popular destinations from the mouth of the CT river for those interested. With this info you can calculate rough MPG (if you know what you burned for a trip), fuel ranges, travel time, etc.
The starting location is from the southern tip of the jetty at the mouth of the CT river and the distances are listed as a boat would travel in both miles and nautical miles (m/NM).
If you're leaving from the Old Saybrook public boat ramp (or Between the Bridges marina), add 4 miles or 3.5 NM to the mouth of the river. If leaving from Chester, CT (Hayes Haven Marina), add 13 miles or 11.5 NM to the mouth of the river.
Old Saybrook/CT River to:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Duck Island, Westbrook, CT (7.5/6.5)
Clinton Harbor, CT (12/10)
Falkner Island, CT (17.5/15)
Thimble Islands, CT (22/19.5)
Fishers Island (Western), CT (15.5/13.5)
Fishers Island (Eastern), CT (24/21)
Greenport (Claudio's), LI NY (20/17)
Mattituck, LI NY (22/20)
Sag Harbor, LI NY (24/21)
Montauk Harbor, LI NY (26.5/23)
Montauk (tip of), LI NY (30/26)
Port Jeff, LI NY (46/40)
Block Island (West side), RI (39/34)
Block Island (Old Harbor), RI (47/41)
Newport, RI (67/58.5)
Please feel free to suggest destinations and I'll calculate the distance and add them to the list.

As I recall you have a 21, if so the nice thing about a boat that size is you can launch it anywhere. Basically making what would be a long trip into a short trip.
If I were you, I'd tow it down to the ramp in Branford and go check out the Thimble Islands, especially if you haven't been there before. IMO, it's probably the most scenic area around and great for hanging out and rafting. It's a short ride so even if it's a little rough it won't be a big deal to get back.
No reason you can't tow it to Newport either. It would be fine there, but pick your days.
Otherwise, I've taken smaller boats over to Greenport and Sag Harbor many times before, but you have to check the marine forecast before you go and watch the winds while you're there. As long as the marine forecast calls for 1' or less all day, and the winds stay down, it will very likely be a smooth trip back and forth.
