Im VERY familiar with his Skater (a.k.a. My future boat) and I'm hoping for a test run in it this summer :) but i can't imagine towing a 46' skater around town :lolhit::eekdrop:

I'm going to give my 1/2 a cent here and would like to say a straight bottom Vee. They are not the fastest boat out there by any means but the handling is more direct and you can feel what the boat is really doing(kinda like manual steering vs steering by wire) you can feel the water not just flying on top of it. But that's just me I have a straight vee and a manual steering sports car and I like them just they way they are.

I think I'm leaning towards a straight v as you said because I agree with the speed aspect and the handling. I feel like size of the catamaran would be important. I would love to do 120+ in a cat but I feel like in order to be comfortable in the big waves, you would need a larger cat (40-50ish feet). But seeing the AmsOil Skater bouncing around in races can't be to comfortable and that's a 36' Douglas Skater...(granted it's doing 120+ in large waves)

The reason the boat looks like it is bouncing so much is due to the fact that the majority of the boat is being supported aerodynamically, with only a very small portion of the boats total weight being supported by the hull. This actually results in the ride of a cat being much better than a vee in many conditions.

That's an absolutely fantastic example, that cat is running GREAT...it's also a race boat...and that's some snotty water.... it's also running that on 525s.....

Anything 40+ft in big water....will run in it...Cat or Vee, it's personal preference...if you're up at the 46ft level, either will do very well in good sized water...and be able to keep up at good speeds, but remember, we're talking running head on, anything will get funky if you're getting a side sea...quarter sea, following sea, it's all the variables, there's no things a big Vee or a Big cat really can't handle...

Straight bottom, great, for steps, Outerlimits, everyone knows my stance, it is bar none the best rough water boat....WITH STEPS, period...

I think the 42 is one of the greatest hulls ever to come out of there, you want a serious comfortable ride in a 3-4ft roller chop...you can run 85 in an OL if not faster and you just don't feel i t, it's amazing....there's no business...straight bottom is great...however I'm going to have to disagree, I won't ever run a non-stepped boat again, for the speed, handling, and rough water characteristics OL has it for me...
