Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
Thank you Mark.
Twistman, (if you have the time to answer) Hows that poker run edition comming along that one you posted pics of. Im sure we would all like to see that bad boy. If you dont mind me asking why have you steered away from the 12' beam? I see the the widest is 11' per specs on your site. What are the tunnel widths of your new designs? (38'+) What determines tunnel width? Is there a universal formula that cat manufactures use? Or is it the designers preference? One more who came up with the name "Starship" or I should say how did it come about. Personally I like its different. Thank you AL. |

the truth is it was on there for the arnesons, for steering rams.

Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
Ross was the bussel also (like) a tunnel tab?
|
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
no they did'nt know what a tunnel tab was back then.
|
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
The wider the tunnel the larger the wing. It packs more air by increasing the lift surface or area of the wing.
The pad or extra foot on the back of the 39 should also have been on the 48. Or the width of the tunnel itself should haved been increased. The Actives, which is an OE, did not have the extra 1 foot of pad on the transom which made those a 38. |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
What is interesting about OE's is that Ross was ahead of his time. All OE's had steps from the early 80's on. The steps only seem to be functional at moderate speeds.
Cig,s Nortec's Outerlimits, Fountains, MTI etc only started in the last 5 or so years. Steps trace back in history as early as the 1930's(if not earlier). |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
When were the Actives and the Express Cats made?
How many of each where made? And is the extended pad the only design difference? Is there a noticable difference in the ride between the two? Thank you AL |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
Only a few Actives made. All without the pads. I understand there is a difference but have not experienced it myself.
I have no clue as to how many OE's are out thee. |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
I appreciate you guys answering my questions. I am sure I'll have more.
Heres a question. If you dont mind. What made you or helped you decide to buy a 39' OE.? Thank you AL. |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
The ride, performance, testimonials and prior history.
|
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
I heard that there were about 200 39s made. Sounds like a lot, but who knows better than old man Ross.

Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
What do u think about the boat with that price?
|
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
Remember this, its not the price you paid for the boat, its what it costs you.

As long as those engines set I would change oil and filters before starting them, then change again after idling for 20-30 minutes and then change again before a good one hour run on the hose. Check the color of the oil and if it changed color change again. Also change the tranny and drive fluids. Drain the fuel out of the gas tanks and start with fresh. It has to be varnished. Check all the hoses and lines for dry rot. |
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
Change the chainbox fluid and u-joint fluid. Look for milkly fluid. You should order boots for those drives.
|
Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
I did the oil already, now i have to do the drive, Mark can u post a pics of what a boots look like, these drives are second effort drives, they have * inch extention on the prop shaft

What did the oil look like after running? It should be ran a couple times on a hose and changed again before splashing. |

Re: Let's see Pics of your OE
I need a contingency plan just in case I cant find the right 39' so I was wondering what is your guys opinion of the 33'?
Mind you I'll be running in the Gulf. Is a 33' to small? Will there be a big difference in fuel consumption$$$? (lighter boat=less gas) or is this a non issue? Is the cabin design somewhat similar? (just slightly smaller) Anyone know the tunnel width? I know they have 10' beams. Insurance, is there a difference between the two? Dare I say it. But should I be considering 38' Top Gun instead of a 33' for plan B  I just dont want to make a 100k mistake. Thank you AL. |
