What happens to the trim cylinders?
Well, I believe that when Ross purchases the drives used or in what ever condition they are in when he gets them, he never purchases the trim cylinders along with them.
Of course they then make their own make shift system that you unfortunately have on your boat currently.
Contrary to what OE states, every drive assembly we make comes complete with the trim and steering cylinders from the factory, along with the mounting bolts and trim pumps. The drop box drives such as the ones you have do not come inclusive of the wedge plates nor the standoff brackets for the steering and trim cylinder though as these are accessories.
There are several different wedge plates as there are several different mounting applications for the drives combined with the varying transom angles of the boats.
Standard installation is on vertical plane and thus uses the vertical wedge plate (which is not necessary on boats with a 7 degree transom angle) then there are the 31 degree (the most common installation angle, most all V bottoms are mounted on this angle) then there is the 52 degree angle. The wedge plates are different in that other than the vertical mounting, the others are machined on a compound angle and thus are not interchangeable.
The trim cylinder lengths also vary based upon the installation angle and the size of the drop box (10” or 16”) as the more vertical installation requires a longer trim cylinder length to clear the drop box housing.
While the length of the cylinder changes the stroke basically stays the same.

I wish the cylinders were in a pile at the factory. My boating habits, when not in a poker run, is a lot of stop and go. This requires the use of trim. Rik, are there steering cylinders stock anywhere and how much?

I was at Pipe Dream Racing's shop yesterday and I saw that they use the manual cylinders similiar to a hatchback or a trunk in a car. My hatches(similiar to your hatches) weigh about #200+ each. HOLY CRAP! May not work but I will do the research on weights.
Getting ready for work now. NOT!!!
Allergies keeping me up.

You mean the cylinder tube itself?
You can get this but you have to commit to a 20' length to get it and thus the delima. What to do with 16' extra?
I buy the S.S. tube by the 20' lenghts, cut, machine and polish.
The tube is not finished on the outside so it has to be turned on a lathe and get a finsinh and then polished.

I am contacting Michigan today to get the requirements for SPH's.
Ohio only require an insurance form be filed in Columbus.
I have to appear in person to the district office for the permit after filing the insurance.
I only need wide load signs and flags no escort.

Rik,
I am referring to the whole assembly for the steering.
Some time for a next winter project, what can I do to get one of my drives to accommodate two right rotating engines. Can the chain box be rebuilt or built to do this? How much do you think this will cost. I plan on rebuilding the engines this winter and making both engines righthand rotate if I can do something about the drives.
