And he had to walk through the snow in his bare feet uphill both ways to get to the driver's meeting :D

Ron how about the balloons being tied to the turn boat? I keep looking at Sharky's map of Point and it looks so easy. I could have sworn that after turn 1 it was more like a 90 deg turn for 100 yards then off to the left at about a 45 deg. angle. This is just how I remember it. The second marker I am talking about may have just been part of the first turn but it was pretty far away to think that. All I am saying is that it was confusing.
Sharky I hope you don't really think we have time on a 5 mile course to break out the stop watch and time ourselves from turn to turn.
Shane, If its so easy then why did the WHOLE fleet miss the first turn in Barneget Bay a few years ago? Maybe a handful of people made it right. Are you saying you have never been off course.
Some people think navigating should still be part of the sport. I agree when it was a 50 mile course and you had a navigator position. I believe on a short course it should not be part of the winning formula. I would rather loose a race because the other team beat me heads up racing deck to deck and not because we couldn't see the next marker. Like I said before its safer if everyone knows where they are at all times. I have seen time and time again boats in the spectator fleet and lost. Daytona APBA 2-3 years ago the whole F1 fleet missed turn 3 except 3-4 boats the rest ripped threw the spectator fleet. The list goes on.
It all depends on if you want to race boats or the course as well?

Not at all...

I never used a stop watch, but usually had an idea how long it took to get from point A to point B.

Barnegat Bay was a great example!

I believe that straight away may have been 2 miles long. How do you take a 100 + mph boat and end up at Barnegat Light? There, most all followed the leader....
If Start/Finish was mid way of the course, that means they only needed to go a mile before they hit turn 1.
1 mile and 4 miles is a big difference...
Eventually a phone call was made and they were informed they blew past the turn boat.

Randy, we saw it first hand in Sarasota 05' as well. But as a few people have said plot out the course and follow what you believe to be the course we do have GPS's  . I was yelling at Gary that we were off course as Bacardi and most of the Sv's turned left WAY before the turn.

In some cases the guy in front of you has NO Idea were he is going as you mentioned above about the Barneget Bay race.

And to Answer you question have we ever been off course yes in St Cloud 05' my first race in the Extreme.
