Is it just me or is there something wrong with the way we treat the National title and the World title. It seem's to me that everyone really, really, really wants that world title. In fact its the National title that is way harder to get!!!! The teams that win a National title deserve way more credit for there skill and commitment to the sport. The Worlds has way more luck involved and is more of a end of the the year crank it up race.
I think the titles should be changed so the National winner is crowned the World Champ for the year!!!!!! And put a different title on what we call the Worlds.
There is something wrong with calling a team a world Champ for winning a best of 2 races. Heck you don't even have to win either of the races and you could still be crowned or even roll your boat on one day.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
Possibly names?
Cannonball Run
US Open
Jamboree
(sponsor) Invitations
AMF Cup

I agree, this stuff wears me out trying to stay on top.....but it sure is fun! The double points at the Nationals can rob a continually hard working team of a title for any simple reason like a drive, engine or even bad fuel. I'm not too sure I like the double points, but I can see both sides of the story.

The Title "World Champion" is just inherited when a world championship was just that, and really meant something.
The "World Championship" title should in NO way overshadow a National Championship. Unfortunately it does.
Whats the answer? I HAVE NO CLUE

Great Thread!!
why not make it a Conference cup. seperate the teams on where they are based and the region with the most wins ...wins the Cup. Could make for some exciting racing and SMACK TALK!!
Also should have a big purse.

Good point Randy. The "Worlds" this year are now being called the Merrick World Cup Classic. I think that is taking your point. It is like an invitational tournament with certain rules that make it different. I agree "World Champion" should be dropped in favor of a better, more descriptive title.
Maybe "Big Kahuna".....

I agree Randy.
I always asked that myself back in the day when I was racing in the Worlds.
Someone that raced the previous Worlds automatically got his 2 start minimum and then never show for a race all season to only come down with a new boat the following year to run again....
I am happy to see people are starting to listen and make the changes that are needed.
This sport is growing now.
Let's hope it can keep up the pace....

Totally Agree.
If you win the 'Worlds", I think the real description of that is "we Won Key West", just another race... other than the unique venue.
Racing an entire year reaquires dedication, stratedgy, budget, determination, etc.
Winning a National Championship has a TON more meaning.
