Ft Myers is a great race site, people love when the boats are here and so do the business's on the beach. Places like the Lani kai who charge a premium for the rooms and triple their sales in alcohol, but they feel that people will be at the beach no matter what.

Mike, I know it sucks when races arent in certain cities we like,
but the bottom line is not to be in the red after a event, with the jumbotrons "live TV" and internet, the marketing of these races should be over the top. let alone the premium of the best and fastest offshore boats this side of the globe!!!

Bottom line - if spending $xxx on sponsorship doesn't equate to an increase in RevPar.................why do it? The hotels can look at a week by week analysis, a month by month analysis, etc.
Obviously, offshore racing isn't providing an adequate return on their investment. It's pretty simple. I hate it - but it is still pretty obvious.

The Ft Myers businesses have been doing this for awhile. The hotels alone have a way of monitoring the effect that events have on their ADR (average daily rate) and their overall occupancy rate. The combination of the two equals the RevPar (ADR x Occupancy% = RevPar - revenue per available rental unit). A company named Smith Travel Research tracks these statistics and provides reports to the hotels.

This may be a loaded question but the only stupid question is a question not asked...
Why is St. Clair taken off the roster???? Loved havin' the big dogs runnin' in my neck of woods!
