There seems to be a lot of experts on St. Clair out there. I can tell you that BWORA is negotiating with OSS on coming to our race. Money is always an issue. In the past, both sides have fulfilled their contracted obligations. We are working to have another great race.

The BWORA St. Clair River Classic will be on the weekend of July 28,29. Time will tell who will be racing there. Not much longer though.

Steve PM me information on joining bwora, never got around to it last year. I'll be racing OPA and as many of you said the OSS camp will be sorely missed by those in the area. Anything that can be done to help ensure OSS's attendance just let me know and I'll help. As you said, time will tell how the season plays out....I would also like to see OPA racing in LOTO w/OSS. That would make for one wild season for us.

Translation - the city doesn't give a damn about the race production cost. They want to see a return on their sponsorship dollars - that's all.
St Clair has a track record now. The local businesses know what kind of increase in revenues to expect on a race weekend, and they base their decisions on history. Don't blame a restaurant for not writing a $3,000 check if last year's race only brought in an extra $1,000 in sales.
It ain't personal, it's just business. Offshore racing needs race sites more than the cities need offshore racing................

But if you ask me, they did not take full advantage of the situation.
I am not sure why? Perhaps a legal ordinance??
What I am getting at is, the entire place seemed like it shut down at midnight. I think the only thing that was open the latest was Burger King's Drive Thru till 1 AM.
This is race week. People want to stay out much later and enjoy themselves. How much more do you think the restuarants and bars would have taken in staying open till 3AM or 4AM? Some of us were looking for places to eat at 11PM and finding the kitchen's were closed.
I don't mean this as a dig to the site, it is just something I recommend that should be looked at and maybe they could try to improve on in the future races.
You have a huge amount of people in the area for a limited time. If you are going to feed all these people, it will take more time.
I hope to make it out there again this year.
I just can't set it in stone just yet...

This has been interesting reading...and I believe all contributers are speaking in an honest and open manner. That's good news...hopefully not too late.
What is becoming painfully clear, even to the most starry eyed nooby racers, is that the chickens have not only come home to roost...a lot of them have died from natural causes.
The sport has shrunk, split into factions, scattered unkept promises to sponsors and host cities alike, lost any meaningful television and has no real fan base. Donzi got a lot more bang for their PR buck a few weeks ago by providing boats for the opening segments of "The Amazing Race", then Fountain got for sponsoring the entire SBI series last year. Now St. Clair, an event that Darren and I thoroughly enjoyed over the past few years, is in jeopardy. Few of you remember that this event is all that is left of the old Detroit Stroh's races which took place right in the shadow of downtown and ran out into Lake St. Clair. Looking at it from that perspective...We've come a long way baby.....down.
I respectfully submit that Offshore racing is running out of chances..... When snowmobiling, solar powered vehicle racing and monster trucks get much higher ratings than our sport...that speaks volumes...but only if you're listening.
Bottom line we are being out marketed, and out televised by everybody from Moto cross to, NHRA to the X Games. These offerings have viewer appeal, personality development, a strong fan base, and simplicity. We have none of the above. We offer no significant tourist value to a sponsoring community, no significant television to a race (or boat) sponsor, no understandable entertainment/competition model, no credibility to the motor sports publicity community, no star power or compelling personalities, and a lousy credit rating. A quick glance at the average return rate of previous race sites confirms this (Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, St Clair, Ft Myers). Anybody remember Detroit, Long Beach, San Francisco, San Diego, Galveston, Corpus Christi, South Padre, New Orleans, Saint Petersburg, Daytona, Marathon, Saint Augustine, Ocean City, Freeport, Greenwich, Grand Haven, Chicago, Milwaukee, Waukegan, Traverse City, Bay City, Saugatuck, Cleveland, Rochester, Treasure Cay, Nassau, Virginia Beach, Annapolis, Baltimore, Atlantic City, Plymouth, Toronto, Lake Winnepesaukee, Islamorada and Montauk? Well, they've forgotten you too.....
It's well past the time for a serious self assessment....... My worst nightmare is the prospect of attending the annual Manhattan SBI race in 2012 and watching two race boats, fourteen classes and the only successful constant in the sport...John Carbonell.

It was a great event.

It was probably around midnight because were couldn't convince the restuarant across the street to open its kitchen back up after it closed at 11:00PM 
Perhaps BK was only only open till Midnight as well?
I know we had to make a run for it before that closed on us too....
