GREERS?FERRY - The Ozark ROAR Offshore Super Series Powerboat Races are headed to Greers Ferry Lake the weekend of April 21 & 22. Official spectator viewing areas for the afternoon races will be Sugar Loaf Park on the south shore of the lake and Fairfield Bay Park on the north shore of the lake.

The official viewing areas will have access to comfort facilities, food vendors and audio coverage of the races, all for a $10 armband charge. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited and coolers will not be allowed in official viewing areas. Choctaw Park will host the launching area for craning the boats in the water and will be open to spectators on the dates of April 21-22 ($5 for parking at Choctaw). The Race Village will be staged on Hwy 16 E at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds in Clinton, on site parking available for $5 and vendors in Village.

The races are open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a $10 arm band gets you into ALL viewing areas for that day.

At Sugar Loaf Park, viewers will park directly off Highway 92, close to the entrance to the park. For Fairfield Bay the off-site parking will be at the corner of Highway 330 and the new road across the street from Bill's Gas & Deli. Shuttles will be provided.

The Choctaw Park boat ramp will be closed from April 21-22 for the wet pit craning area. The east boat ramp at Sugar Loaf Park will remain open until filled through the race weekend.

Campers will be allowed in the parks until the campsites are full on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Some of the camp areas will be restricted and off-limits due to race activities. There are many other parks located around Greers Ferry Lake to accommodate campers.

Persons planning to watch the races from their boat should know all spectator boats must be in place by 10:30 am on race days. Spectator boats will only be allowed on the east and west ends of the race course, outside the safety buffer areas. The north and south shores along the race course will be closed to spectator boats for safety and to assure official spectator viewing areas have better viewing.

VIP tickets are still available by calling one of the sponsoring Chambers of Commerce.

GREAT JOB TO ALL IN GREERS FERRY. THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT RACE

Ozark Roar Info

Hey Cat,

The info shown above is from Kitty! If you can't talk to her directly, she is out doing another newspaper article, talking to a radio station, interviewing with a TV newscaster, arranging places for the crews to stay, etc. If you need anymore information, just ask around - the people at Clinton, Fairfield Bay and Greer Ferry are super nice and willing to help anybody! Have a great time!

GO OZARK ROAR!!!!!!!!

I was not slamming anyone, I'm sure Kitty is busy and it's obvious she's earned the respect of the racers. I race in another motorsport and I know all too well of the benefits of effective promotion and communication to to make the event a success.

I also know that last miunute surprises are a pain for teams and for spectators- for the good of the sport both need to have a good experience so they'll come back and bring all their friends and family with them. I'd like nothing more than for a lake near me to be a regular stop for the circuit, even better if the teams consider it one of the best locations to race- for whatever reasons.

My comments came from the level of detail shared in the post- some had been omitted earlier even though I went to sites, emailed Kitty and asked questions- you would think the details would've come up already- so I was thanking racesdad for going out of his way to post the scoop up rather than assuming peeps had all the scoop.

The event is in the news in Central AR, a few hrs away, in NW Arkansas there is no promotion that I've seen or heard- and there should be IMHO. We have a big lake here too, lots of enthusiasts and it's an untapped draw.

In this post there is more info about....

what's going on at specific parks and where the parks are
cooler policy
10:30 must be anchored policy
hint that SL park may fill up ( I now have a plan B)
where you can anchor (I had this verbally but had not seen it in print for others to know)

I'm sure you guys can see how this info is helpful and why I was glad to get it. We'll be anchored at the east end bright and early sunday in a 30 daytona with charcoal/silver razor graphics- see you there
