Shame, Typhoon and the other SVL's decided to split up so we could all recieve purse money. The start and race was all at the same time and was a lot of fun. The money that our team TYPHOON with its 1st place and 3rd place was donated to a new fund that will help rescue people in need. One of our own divers is in need and TYPHOON thought the money would help. TYPHOON donated close to $3500 to this fund. I also know Steve Page gave his firts place chech as well.
SO before you come on here and Slam teams that race you should find out there motive. Being out of the loop doesnt mean you should make ignorante remarks in public. We thought it was the right thing to do!!!!!

I see that the Cat Outboards were running on Sat in Class 3. What was the class max speed? The same as OPA, 95mph?

popra does an average lap speed.

Vinny,

Average lap speed is very flawed. We've ask POPRA to change to using all 3 methods to place boats in the proper class. Those would be mathematical speed calc, test ride, and known speed of the boat (previous kilo runs). We have also ask the rules be modified to eliminate the use of rev limiters and smaller props to get a boat into a lower class. Also on the list is sealed GPS units. OPA seems to have a pretty good system when it is implemented in its entirety.

Because the additional torque of a higher HP engine will allow a boat to pick up 3-4 seconds per turn. 8 laps x 4 turns = 2 to 3 minutes for the race.

Of course we can go back to the days of checkbook racing and run 1100 HP blower motors in P5. Then the guy with the biggest checkbook wins.

Not trying to be a pain in the butt, just trying to understand the logic.

Based on your equation up top you should also eliminate better hulls that allow guys to maintain more corner speed as well since it would do the same thing as better acceleration.

Its not about average lap time. Its about top speed of your boat which has a direct correlation of weight to HP when like hulls (V' bottoms for example) are compared.

A better turning hull may give you a very small advantage, but this advantage is nothing when compared to additional torque and HP. An experienced team can often overcome these small advantages.

The system is not perfect. Its sportsmans racing. If you put similar performing boats together, running as hard as your skills allow you, then you'll have a fun race. Put dissimilar boats together where in the last 150 yards you punch the throttle and win then you have a Poker Run. (No offense to Poker Runs)
