Annual Powerboat Races to Be Broadcast on Fox Sports Network
Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL—The high octane powerboat action that roared through the gulf waters on the Alabama Gulf Coast will now speed to your television as the 6th Annual Thunder on the Gulf is broadcast nationally on the Fox Sports Network. Featuring interviews with the teams and exciting action from the multiple heats and races, the thirty minute show is set to air on Friday, December 19 at 3:00 p.m. CST and will be broadcast for a second time on Wednesday, December 24 at 3:00 p.m. CST. Recognized as a Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events for the month of August 2008, Thunder on the Gulf generated 12, 312 additional room nights for local accommodations, which resulted in almost $1.8 million in total lodging revenue. At the end of the weekend, race fans left behind about $4.2 million in total island spending.
The 7th Annual Thunder on the Gulf is set of August 13-16, 2009.

There are a bunch of local boaters that would suport the race is it wasn't the same weekend as the poker run. I'm sure there are a couple that like to do the Pro-Am also. I think this is the 4th year in a row they have been on the same weekend. Why try to compete for the same market on the same weekend?
