OSS coming back to LOTO in 2013???
There has been talk on MWBP that OSS is coming back to LOTO June 7-9, 2013. There was an article in the local LOTO paper and it was talked about on the radio.
http://www.lakenewsonline.com/articl...91/1020/SPORTS Anybody else know anything???? It sounds like its still in the planning stages on one hand, then it on the other, it sounds like its a done deal. |
Griff, it's about time someone posted over here about this. :drink:
This is really exciting to think about. We're at the 3.5mm and would be close to the action. I hope it happens. |

I don't believe full funding has been secured to bring them here. The radio advertisements etc. that have been seen and heard locally, state that there will be charities that benefit from any excess funds, however at that same time they are searching for supporters. Having seen race efforts cancelled in the past last minute after lots of propaganda to get people excited, and hope that conjurs up enough interest to secure the funds, but comes up short, I have to wonder. Then again, Osage Beach did spend about $55,000 ( i think ) on a white "Hollywood style" sign, that can be seen coming into town on the new highway. Wish i was the guy that made and installed that, musta been some profit in that project.

u can put on a race but boats have to show up? the last 3 years have not looked good for the sport, when u get money from towns and can not produce a show. not puttin down the boats that do show. maybe put on a race with OPA or SBI backin you, points help for something?

Race or no race it is still a good reason to drag the boat to the lake for a long weekend. :ernaehrung004: |
I think that the last time OSS was in town they invited POPRA to also take part. these are more of the west coast guys. Being in the middle of the country allows for some of this "co-mingling".
With all of the powerboats at LOTO, and the class structure of OSS, I would think there would be plenty of boats racing. It will sure give alot of folks the opportunity to "walk the walk". It will be a great venue! |

You want boat count? Go with O.P.A. racing
|
Who is OSS now? I thought they went to APBA or P1 whatever it is.

OSS considers themselves THE premier racing organization. They usually only allow closed canopy boats and only allow Mercury racing engines, since they are owned and operated by Mercury racing. They usually only draw a small handful of boats, unless they allow another smaller group to join their events. OSS rarely allows amateurs to join their races. That would be beneath them.

Huh, what, owned by Mercury? Wow, I am on the board of OSS and didn't know any of these things.
I am glad to see that you found this thread! can you give us lake of the Ozarks guys any insights on how OSS goes about putting on races, specifically what classes there are, and what it takes to enter. If we can figure it out early, maybe we can have more racers involved. It will be a great weekend at the lake! |
OSS basically offers the same classes as everyone else. They have DO have STRICT safety and technical guidelines so just make sure that you have all of your proper equipment in working order. They have a few structure base on the pro am and super series classes as well as PRIZE MONEY that is paid out at the race site. IF LOTO can come up with the necessary $$$$ to put this event on, that I know they are working on, it should be a great show for the fans. I believe you can find info about fees at www.OffshoreSuperSeries.com

What are your talking about? OSS may not have the largest boat count but they run a very professional ship (so to say) and as far as Mercury only motors ?? Thats far from accurate, just look at the SVL class.. :lolhit:
b. The Mercury Racing 525 EFI Sealed Engine and the Innovation Vortec HP3 Sealed Engines are the only current production engines approved for use in SVL. Doesn't that limit the fleet to 3 boats? Randy, Steve, and Jim Simmons? It also appears that all of the "National Classes" are Merc products also. Only P Class is open to all builders. |
I thought the 750 class was open to Sterling Motors - mybad.

It is....

It does sound like they have the approval to close down Bagnell Dam to all traffic to allow a spot for spectators. I'd think that there would need to be some pretty sound backing for the DOT to agree to that. I am thinking that it will be happening.
I'd put $100 bill on Ameran & DOT not letting the dam be used for spectators! Only reason I say that is that I have family that works for Ameran..."not a meter reader either..lol" when asked about it at our little New Years get together he said NO WAY!! Huge liability!! They probably will close the dam down...but they do that for parades and alot of other stuff too for traffic reasons! |

Hopefully, I can answer some of the questions...in a positive way. We are having a race the weekend of June 7-9 2013. It is a Lake of the Ozarks Invitional......The race is called....The Mountain Dew / Formula Boats presents Lake Race 2013. We have sub-contracted OSS Staff and Safety to Manage the event for us. By doing this, we are able to shake some things up a little different and hopefully reboot our sport. This is a constantly evolving project and very exciting. The main event will be a extreme class, kinda like run what what you brung and hopefully you brung enough. We are still working on the details of that class.....but plain and simple right now if you have a Cat or Vee with a canopy and piston power....your in competing for a 40,000 dollar purse....just for that class. With No Entry or Boat Registration fee. That pays back 5 places. We also are having Live Tv with 3-4 hours on Sat. and 5 hours on Sun. It will be a live feed on a local channel that covers the Lake area and Springfield and Branson areas. I was told a coverage of two million viewers, it also will be a live internet feed for viewing.
We also will be promoting the Pro-am Classes or Break out class which ever you prefer. We also have the SVL class that Lance Sutton has been willing to coordinate and he has secured a cash prize purse for that class. I have been working with a company to secure a cash prize purse for the Outboard class. My ultimate goal... is secure cash prizes for all the classes....I do not know if it will be successful, but I'm trying, you will have trophies for sure and Tv time. Having that many hours of Tv to fill, they will be doing alot of interviews. Just to give you a little insight, We at LOTO, OSS and Playcraft Pontoons are working on putting the first tritoon exhibition race on. those details are also being worked on as we type. Looks like the class will be 25' to 28' class with a single outboard....with max hp at 350...we might see speeds at 60mph and we think it will be a crowd pleaser also. I also would like to say....That the Lake of the Ozarks community believe in the racers and support the racers, they also believe in....putting on the best show they can for the spectators. It has been alot of work and there will be alot more. This is a Open Invite to all Racers and Spectators.... We look forward to seeing you. www.lakerace.com or Like our facebook page... Lake Race |
It will be yet another great weekend at Lake of the Ozarks. Kudos for all of the work that you guys have put in on this event!

Where are people staying at?

Is OSS providing raceteams or just support? Curious what organization of racers will be racing? OPA, SBI, etc Sounds like a fantastic time, great job in getting this setup. |

Seems like a bit of an odd class off-hand. most single o/b are 21-24, I would think the few 25-28 o/b that exist would all be twins.

The OSS management is running the Event with there staff, safety team, and rule book. Boats from ANY organization are invited, there are NO FEES to run this event, no registration or entry fees. Every team gets a free hotel room as well. |
TUG IT SVL will be there!! Talked to everybody last night and it sounds like we're all in. Looking forward to our 1st race w/ OSS, and especially checking out LOTO for the 1st time... Anybody feel like towing the boat out there?? Had some minor trailer issues on the way to the last OSS race in Biloxi last year! Don't want any repeats of that!!:poopoo:
