APBA weight ?
Why don't they weigh the boats with the crew in it? If we are trying to be fair on all angles this is not right. 2 big men could add 500 lbs (Flashwave) where 2 well toned well conditioned athletes (Typhoon) 350lbs? would have a unfair advantage the way I see it. Am I wrong on this? Put a bathroom scale on the dock if you don't want to lift the boat with people on it.
Randy:rolleyes: |
Hush, Randy, you are giving away secrets . . .
Anyway, in our politically correct world, weighing the boats with the crew in it would be construed as discrimination against the circumferentially challenged .... |
"two toned and well conditioned athletes", who might that be?
|
DOH!!!!
|
your ego adds the other 150 lbs ha ha get that boat done i'm pacing ya so watch it.
|
Not to mention the two cases of beer under the seat.
|
Stop giving away my secrets. Does anyone have any real answers.

Candy,
You see , these crooked Warlocks always have too much lift on the port side. You need that extra weight to balance them out. J |
Jim only busting, haven't heard from you in a while. What do you think about the weight idea?
Candy:p |
F1 uses an all up weight including the driver. When all is said and done though, I don't see it making a big difference for us. We usually start the race lighter than most and end the race 20-30 lbs over. Not too many teams do that. Plus, if I lost any weight, I'd have to get a new boat! :)

The driver is not included in the weight.

Candy,
The other F1 guys. Formula 1. J |
Jim the reason most teams dont do that is because they finish all there laps.:p
Randy |
Candy,
Remember Daytona 2002. You finished were behind me. :D J |
Randy,
Have to agree with you with the crew members being left in the boat for the weigh in. When I raced in the OPC(Sport C, SST 45) division of APBA we were weighed at the end of each race. Thw weigh in included driver with all the gear he raced with(uniform, helmet, jacket, gloves, etc.) and residual fuel with the drain plug removed. I really think that the driver and throttleman should be included in the final weigh in. To be honest, I could never understand why it never was done that way in the Offshore Division. |
If the race teams want it that way then we should tell APBA. They listen to our ideas and are there to help make the sport as fair as possable.
Jim I just cant get one over on you.;) Mad Dog |
NHRA has done this for years, they weigh the winners on the way back to the pits. Of course it's very easy to run a car across the scales. Perhaps it's a safety/insurance issue, hoisting the boats with crew aboard. It's a good idea if it can be implemented.

FastOffshore,
Good Point about insurance coverage for the weigh in. I think a solution would be to lift the boat out of the water to the trailer with no crew members on board. Once the boat is on the trailer have the crew return to the cockpit to have it lifted off the trailer enough so that the boat is free from the trailer(a few feet), then taking the weight at that time. Have an inspector at each crane keeping an eye on racing crews during the time they are out of the boat. Any one else have any ideas??? Just a thought |
maybe if they had more than 2 cranes..
|
Perhaps they could weigh the crew separately @ the dock after the race, like jockeys. Now that would be embarrassing for some of us! It would be hard to hide any significant added (later) weight on most bodies.
It would be more fair to include the crew in an "all up weight". |
I agree totaly
