Create a F1 class
If you could write the rule book for F1 what would it be?
Lets start with this 1) X dimension stays the same 2) Exhaust stays the same (elbow tops or 525 headers) wet. 3) Drives, XR only 4) Weight, 4700 lbs everybody 5) Motor 500 EFI or 496 same HP. or 525EFI and Vortec Mad Dog  |
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD STARTING SPOT RANDY, NOW IF WE COULD ONLY GET IT DONE.
KEVIN |
Kevin, please call the F1 teams in the GL series and have them write what they want in our class. If there is no input then there should be no complaining at all.
MD |
one weight, one engine, one drive,
boat weight 4800lbs something with 500hp bravo drive |
*one weight, one engine, one drive,
*47 to 4800 lbs *bravo drive, standard lower, everybody has one, the sport master is junk if you ask me, it's design for boats over 90 *475 to 500 hp in relation to another thread, why does a 30' boat with a canopy in SVL weight 4750 but in factory 1 a 30' boat has to weigh 5325 with out a canopy, kinda makes you go hummmm. |
eddie,
preach it brother, i am with you not against you!!!!! one weight, one engine, one bravo!!!!!! bc |
some boats dont agree well with sportmasters Randy some do

Ok I will edit the sports master out and weight the same. I will change it to XR only. What else?
MD |
What about this homoligation thing ? Good or bad?
|
Randy:
I'd go to "production Bravo" for upper & lower. XR/XZ/whatever is a reliability thing, not a speed thing. I'd also allow ITS. It's the way to go, and it's allowed in SVL. Homologation: If F1 is supposed to be "Factory One," then you need homologation. |
Randy,
If you were to do away with the "Homologation" rule, that might open the door for some older boats such as "Deranged"(27 Magnum) who initially wanted to run F1. Although he might not be competative in the flat water, he might be able to compete in the rough stuff. There are alot of older boats that might come back out if the Homologation was deleted. I think it was Eddie who said "keep it affordable and boats will show". If someone wanted to build an affordable F1, I think the best place to start might be an older less expensive hull. I also agree with one engine/drive and weight. One last idea, I don't think I would allow any "one off" boats, only boats that have been in production but may not have the "homologation" status. Great thread! Bob G. |
Shane I agree!

But the BIG point is , its not up to the racers to make the rules,
|
Mike (Runaway),
APBA does listen. For example, last year we suggested a maximum length of 28' for P5. We waited untill after the Worlds and then presented our case, they listened to the voice of reason, and changed the rule for this year. I think Randy is on the right path, obtain suggestions from other racers, and then present it to APBA in a concise and rational way. Randy for APBA North East regional rep???;) :D |
If you want rules that the racers can live with, they have to be supported and understood by the racers and the sactioning body.
One engine, one drive, and one wieght can work. |
Not to piss anyone off but I thank we need to keep some of this Homoligation stuff on board, They have loosen the rules a bit already. I thank if you make a model change you can apply for homoligation with the first boat then sell the 5 pleasure boats. This opened the door for smaller builders to get into the game. The class was designed to sell pleasure boats and performance engine packages, we need to stay as close as we can to the boats on the show room floor. I do not see a place for 2 and 3 seat propose built boats in F1
|
Eddie,
No trying to disagree with you or anything buddy but maybe lettting the older A class boats is not that bad of an idea. Trust me I know yours is one of the only boats out there that is really a true F1 as the class was initially intended for. I have not seen to many F1's recently that when u look in where the cabin should be and there is nothing but full stringers. Your boat I Know has a full cabin minus the cushions . The new F1's of this year and last year are basicly on the lines of an A class boat just with a different motor and drive. I also agree with a one motor, one drive, one weight rule for all boats. My personal opinion on the motor is either the Mecury 496 motor or a Gm Vortec Equivlent. I know I am not a owner/racer in the class but as someone who was once interested in this class I just felt like adding some input. All the recent changes and rules steered me away from wanting to enter in this class. |
Folks, this is a good thread. It started with a clear and concise proposal. Let's keep it at that. Let's keep the bickering out of this thread.
One motor, one drive, one weight. One motor: To be decided. One drive: Stock Bravo drive, upper & lower. Whatever flavor. One minimum weight: 4700 sounds like a good number. |
Peconic the XR drive is the strongest drive in the Bravo line up. Most teams do have them or could convert an XZ with some gears in the upper. The standard Bravo is cheaper and faster but is in no way nearly as reliable in the offshore racing environment.
2nd on the ITS suggestion it wont work because it has a built in stand off box which would be an advantage on some boats but not all. 3rd Homo ligate boats that are in the best interest of the sport and not one off boats. Lax the rules a bit for special cases. Example Shane's Scarib, most A boats but NOT something like the Fabio Butsee boat. How about it would have to be approved by the racers that are already racing in the class? Great input, keep it coming and I will edit the first post as we go. MD |
Randy:
Roger the drive. Allow them to upgrade gears with minimum hassle. Roger homoligation with laxer rules. Mentioned ITS because of the upgrade path to SVL. I know you are looking at it. With the Kryptonites, that extra 7" standoff had no effect. |
Is there any boats out there that would race F1 but they have an issue with the homo ligation? Lets not create an issue if there is not one!!!
MD LOOOO ANNNNNN what time is the meeting going to be again? |
The meeting is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday, which gives us 1 1/2 hours to hash out the issues before heading to the mandatory drivers meeting at 6:30. Location TBD. Michelle is working on some possible meeting places either at the hotel or a luxury coach. I have asked that wherever we meet we need a phone line so we can conference call in the teams who are not present at the Ft. Lauderdale race.
A tentative agenda follows. Please make changes as necessary. (Thanks to Peconic for his help!) A.) How can we make Factory racing more popular? - For the racers - For the public B.) The pre-meeting consensus appears to be one engine, one weight, one drive. - What engine? - What weight? - What drive? C.) Course layout D.) Race support - Fees - Parts - Fuel - Other And to reiterate - we have 1 1/2 hours to get through this agenda before the drivers meeting. Do we need to meet earlier - like around 4:00 - to ensure we can thoroughly discuss these topics and gain consensus? Testing for the day ends at 3:00 p.m. and according to the schedule I have the only thing we'd miss is the meet the crew pit party which runs from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. |
Good Luck at the meeting, my sponsor has decied to move to another class......Thanks for everything!!!
|
I think an earlier start at 4:00 would be better so we don't run out of time. Maybe we could let the potential motor builder offer what they are willing to do for us at 5:15 to convert what we have?
Its your show Allen let me know! MD |
are you guy's nut's. it is up to us. you want to be heard then go to the meetings. put in your suggestions and if it's good it will done. that's the problem. all of you people complain about the rules after the fact. never saw one you, including you randy at any meeting. and if you want to know what meeting there is one every year in st louis.
Treadwell |
This year, the meeting is in Ft. Lauderdale.
|
Okay folks - the meeting will start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. I've heard from a few people who want to push it to 4:00 so we don't run out of time.
I'll make sure Michelle can accommodate us with either a room or a luxury coach at 4:00. |

Thanks for the info Tread. This is our 5th year racing and I never knew of a meeting in St. Louis that we could voice our opinions on rules. Am I the only one that has been blind to this? Sorry but no one has ever told me about it and I do a lot of talking about rules.
MD:mad: |
He must be referring to the annual APBA meeting. As if that has any impact on F1 rules. Please, let's keep THOSE politics out of the topic.
|
Peconic, my sentiments, exactly....we wish we had somebody like you who supported us like you support Randy and Glenn...
