The Jersey Boyz and SBI

OK, so OPA/The Jersey Boyz did a race outta Jersey...we sancitioned a race in St. Clair. It was an OPA Northeast Divisional Points Race for us, OSS came, ANNNNNDDDDDDD? We INVITED EVERYONE, NOBODY else came! We race where and when we want, that's been The Jersey Boyz Motto since day ONE! Smitty and I have been getting calls, e-mails, ect. for over a week now soooooooooo I'm gonna clear the air and set $hit straight. We (The Jersey Boyz) are LOYAL to Bubba and SBI, we always have been. We will race Key West, we are not starting our own racing body ( we have enough bull $hit running our own businesses) and we are not jumping any ship ( could you see my fat a$$ jumping anything!) Guy's, we just want to race and have fun. ANY QUESTIONS??? My Cell is 201-665-1033, my office is 201-863-3560 if anyone needs to hear anything else. Thanks for a great season so far, EVERYBODY! Augie :blaster:and Smitty

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

Never saw so many crybabbies in my life. Just shut up and race. The object here is to have some fun doing it and not always be upset.
Augie, Smitty, Scott and the rest of the Joisey Boyz always put on a great show. It is great racing with these guys andddd we also love the spread they put out with John from AMF.
Competition is good. We all should try to win on the race course and not in the rule book. Beating 5 or 10 other boats gives you a feeling of great satisfaction knowing you gave it your best and were successful. The best thing though is that even if you lose a race there will always be another one in a couple of weeks that you can look forward to. My point is that at least there is offshore racing to enjoy. The downside is that with all this bickering between the two current sanctioning bodies, and the same by the racers someday we may not have any place to race and that would be a shame. As a long time racer, I have seen guys come in to our sport with a big splash and be gone in a couple of years. Let's hope that doesn't happen to our Sport itself. It sure would be nice to have all of us race together.
Way to go Augie. See u soon

Smitty, does that include you to race the SV in KW? I totally understand the rest of the P class teams and Factory guys to race SBI and support it in full. The nice thing about racing on the same week is that you make a statement as to which sanction you support! YOU CANT DO BOTH

Randy, the best thing about our Family (The Jersey Boyz) is that our Motto has always been as I've said is "WE" race where we want, when we want against everybody that's why "YOU" as one of The Original Jersey Boyz Crew have THE CHOICE to race where you choose as well as Bruce. My choice is SBI, would I love to have everyone race together...HELL YEAH! Randy, I'm on here with Smitty's blessing to just clear the air about what we are doing...nothing more. I do wish EVERYONE the best for a very safe remaining 2005 season. Randy, I'll call ya after 1:00pm today. Augie

IRace

I disagree....

There are no crybabies here. Everyone chooses to race where they feel will fit their team's goals best.

you need a rule book. It doesn't mean jack, if you win on the course and beat teams by having an unfair advantage. And it means a great deal if the rules are not implemented.

There is alot of behind the scenes issues that need to be addressed.

Just remember..... the racers are the show. if you cant keep them happy, you will lose them. No racers+no show.= no $$$$

Eventually, there will be none. just the sad truth.

How many teams do you think sat out the last two years because of all the BS? Quite a few.

How many teams do you think would be out, if the NC race results were not reviewd? Quite a few. As far as Im concerned, if there was a scoring problem and they cant pinpoint the problem, the results should have remamined. You cant impose a half penalty by giving last place points and no money, but not bump up the classes.

Further, I think the AMF crew are great and they welcome everyone. though there seems to be some animosity toward them. Why? I have no clue. But there is. Why wouldn't you want a group like that at your races? Is their trailer bigger than yours?

they are only helping the sport by sponsoring several teams. How many teams do you think would not make as many races as they did, had it not been for AMF. So they, single handedly helped the boat count. How can you not appreciate them?

The racers spend tons of money and take countless hours away from their jobs, businesses, and families to race. For what? a trophy and a few hundred $$$. They need to be heard and respected. Not dictated.

I may have gone off track here, but we need to acknowledge the problem, not protect it.

Just my opinion

Augie, I was only trying to state with a comment like THE JERSEY BOYS have always been loyal to Bubba sounds a little over the top for me. It also sounds like has been and will in the future. If this is the case then take me off the list. Good luck with SBI in the future and have fun as always.

Lets not forget, that the Jersey Boyz hosted a race, here in NJ and asked that everyone support them in an effort to bring back OS racing in the NE.

How may showed? Why didnt they show? Thats what I call loylaty.
One sided!!!!

Augie...with all due respect. You guys need to rethink where your loyalties lie.

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

Bruce, I agree with you that the racers are the show. Also I agree that we should all go to the venue that best suits our teams. But the sad truth is that 2 circuits doesn't do anybody any good. Just look at whats happening to CART and IRL. They are both having trouble fielding enough teams to make the show. The only full IRL race is the INDY 500 which compares to the Key West Race in terms of number of teams.
The Jersey Boyz went to ST. Clair to an OSS event. How many Oss teams came in to N. J. for their race? I am sure that some SBI teams would love to have gone also but there was a race scheduled the following weekend. If you're running for a championship, sometimes you can't make it work.
As far as the rule books go, you are always going to have someone who has an advantage. Some teams will push the rulebook to the limit and some will have a better mousetrap, that is just racing. This has gone on with all forms of racing forever and it will continue. To sit out in protest and not race is stupid. All that will do is lower the number of entrys until there is no show. What we need is one circuit with a ton of boats and then we may be able to make this thing work. I guess it will take the OSS wives finding out how much money they're spending to put on these races to force OSS to an early termination.
By the way,I'm glad you are alright after that rollover. It probably would have shook me up.

BRUCE SEROFF 08-26-2005 11:03 AM

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

Thanks for your concern :p Our rollover was quite an experience.

I agree that two circuits are not better than one. And I only wish, that once again, 88-90 boats will answer to roll call at any given race, as in 2003. But, that is a long time from happening.

I dont think OSS is anywhere near an early termination and Im sure SBI will continue to thrive as well. So, in the meantime, lets just make the best of what we have. And hope that things get better in the foreseeable (sp) future.

Good luck wherever you run

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

Randy,
I don't think it's about making a statement who you support. What about those racers who support Offshore Racing. In Smitty's case he may also be running his P2 boat at the worlds and would have no choice where to race but Key West, since he could race both boats.
I think there are some teams who would race both organizations' worlds if they were on different dates.
If a boat raced both organizations and won in both worlds they would be the undisputed World Champion. Just as you were in 2002 when you won F1 in both the SBI and APBA worlds. You challenged ALL the F1 boats and beat them all to become the 2002 SBI and APBA F1 World Champion!
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Matt

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

What started up as Augie stating fact and clearing up the air....which I must say...there is all kinds of rumors going out after the St. Clair race...and like always most is smoke....

Augie..thanks for posting your tread....Its always good to hear it from the horses mouth ( no pun inteded ). We all know there are people out there that will try to stir up anything....
and maybe thats what irace is trying to say....
I don't want to affend any of the Jersey Boys so I will say to Augie, Smitty, Scott and a few others...just keep doing what your doing.....race, have a good time, race with no agenda and not falling into all the B.S.

Guys....you talk about AMF being DIST. and how certain teams don't support OPA...
I think John has done a great job with AMF and sponsoring teams....but because someone dose that dosn't mean anything gose....John is a big boy...along with all of us. If John has sat down with John C. and Bob B. and hears something from there mouths and dose not like it he along with the rest of every team has the choise of not racing.
If you think every team out there is not going to have a problem with the rules or disitions...let me know what planet your on....deal with it...
We all wanted class represenitives so they can go threw the proper chain to be heard...we have that now. So use them...
.
Its funny how racers from another Organization have to speak for how SBI is handling things. Why so concerned on a Organization which you don't even support, other then to bad month it....
Preach Professionalizm....but act like kids....
If SBI/APBA is doing such a bad job on the rules and have teams that are so upset....then be happy...all of them will come to race OSS.

Bruce your whole story is SHUT UP AND RACE.....why are you so concerned and taking shots at a Organization that for one you used to race on both SBI/APBA.
The Jersey Boys are big boys to....if they want to know why the SBI/APBA teams didn't show I'm sure they can ask the guys themselves....never knew Smitty or Augie to be shy.
IT sounds like your really happy with OSS....SBI/APBA can handle there rules and desitions....

Glad to see you guys are ok from the roll...

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

Randy, I will run the SV in Key west for a few reasons. One of them being I am also the defending World Champion with the P boat. And have every intention of defending that title. In order to do this I cannot be in two places at one time. As far as the SV goes, and I know you wont believe me but, when we were in St Clair Jim Arvis was inspecting my boat when David Knight the CEO of Fountain PowerBoats called my cell. The purpose of the call was first his concern for our rookie race, the other to let us know the only problem Fountain had with us being there, was if we lost. Please dont try and pin me in a corner. I have the utmost resect for you and the OSS. St Clair was awsome. At this point we are in no points chase which gives us the oportunity to run wherever we want. I wouldnt be suprised when we pull up along side you in the pits, very soon. As far as the rest of the teams, are always free to go wherever they want, and always come back. As far as taking you off the list, there is only one way to do that, I am not sure you want to know how. Anyway, relax have fun and drive to like ya stole it. Smitty

I can see this thread is going to become a pissing match, so i will do my best to keep it civil.

Gino,

True, my motto has always been shut up and race. However, when you are told who you can race with and where, I have a problem with that.

I have always had respect for, and supported John C and the SBI org through the years and have Just as much for Jim Poplin, Bob Bull and the APBA org.

But this year, Im seeing and hearing things that are goin on ( not publically posted) that rubs me the wrong way. While most of these things I hear are second hand, they come from reliable sources.

The parties involved know who they are and what Im talkin about. I'de be more than happy to talk to you privately if you wish.

my number is 732 906 8680 feel free to call anytime.

Smitty, ..... you know what Im thinking. I'll be more than happy to discuss in private. You know where to find me.

Mark, Im not going to acknowledge your questions because your not entitled to an answer.

Smitty looking foward to seeing you and Joe going at it again in SV should be a hell of a show. I would think you 2 have to fastest SV out there right now.I"ve watched your boat for years and it is a proven winner, good luck...

MANITIE 08-26-2005 02:42 PM

Re: The Jersey Boyz and SBI

HeY Bruce,

I guess thats my point....your not being told were to race and not....you are racing OSS.

And if things are going on behind closed doors we have no control of it....other then not race....what sport dose not have politics...

I don't agree with things from both Organizations but thats were I have to choose....

There is agenda's on both Organizations....

I know your hearing things from good sources...but I also have heard things and it came from the OSS camp....and I went strieght to that person and found out it was nothing but B.S.
So we all know unless we hear hear things from the horses mouth...there's a good chance its either wrong or not all correct.
I don't see why some many people that are not even racing in SBI/APBA so up in arms....that's the sad part..

And I don't think me and you would get into a pissing contest...I think we are both some what on the same page...

Guy's, I'll try this one more time. My statements are mine and mine only, don't read into anything else. Some of The Jersey Boyz Race SBI and some OSS, some race both when possible, I'm (Augie "The Godfather" Pensa) going to Key West to race, SBI allows open boats, that's what all the calls were about and everyone else can choose to race where they want. All of the phone calls were directed at Smitty and I so I spoke with Smitty and we tried to set this straight. Maybe this will clarify my intentions to those who want to know where I'll be, and thanks for your concerns and interests, I'm honored! Wherever you race, be safe. Now, I'm done with this. My #'s are there if you need anymore info. Thanks, Augie
