OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Hello Racers and Race Fans,
Its time to get ready for the first race of the season in Algonac Michigan on June 3 - 4. That's only six weeks from now so, git er dun and git to Algonac. This is a city rich in racing history as the infamous Gar Wood started racing in these waters three quarters of a century ago. Prepare to be publicized in Algonac The race committee is rolling out the red carpet for the OPA teams and would like to feature each of the teams in their race program. If you'd like to be featured, please send an email containing your boat name, number, team names, hometown, prior accomplishments and photos of the boat and team. Also list your sponsors, type of boat, engine builder and horsepower. Make it interesting for the fans. Send to: Beth Engel [email protected]. Beth can also help you out with advertising space in their race program. This is a great way to promote your sponsor and your team for a very low price. Please help to support their efforts, its not everyday someone take the time and effort to make a great race program. Prepare to get wet in Algonac On Saturday in Algonac, everyone is going for a swim. As per the OPA rulebook and our insurance policy, all OPA racers must get wet. Open cockpit teams will do a swim test while canopy teams will go for a ride in the dunker. This training is well worth the effort, so get there early on Saturday. Cold and wet, helmets and jackets will be supplied. More info will be emailed to you, as the race date gets closer. Prepare to be examined before Algonac OPA is serious about your safety and so is our insurance provider. As per the OPA rulebook all riding crewmembers will need to present a certificate that they passed a FAA- CLD physical. This has been in the rulebook for years and never enforced. This year, it will be enforced. You can find an FAA certified doctor at this link. http://flightphysical.com/search/searchgen.htm Bring the certificate to Algonac, it must be presented at registration. Prepare for takeoff before leaving for Algonac Before you letter up your boat for the season, you need to register with OPA to avoid any duplicate numbers. If you have a question about your number, send an email to [email protected]. Who ever registers first gets the number! Prepare to be amazed in Algonac The response from the racers has been terrific, but we want to make this list complete. If you haven't filled it out yet, please do it now. http://oparacing.homestead.com/Racecommitment.html With this many boats in just a few classes, the level of competition is going to be amazing. Thank you, OPA |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Hi Ron,
Excuse my ignorance, but are we suppose to have a Class 1, 2 or 3 FAA physical?? Unless I missed, I didn't notice anything about a CLD physical. Please clarify. |

Thanks Bruce.
It's the physical to fly a small airplane during daylight hours. Mostly eyesight and reflexes. This year, we must get all racers to show proof of passing the physical. Thanks for your co-operation. |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Can any licensed physician perform the physicals or must it be specifically an FAA certified doc?
