Just stopped briefly at Hooters for the "Meet The Racers Party" - several boats out in front drawing stares and slowing traffic - Traffic Light, Bounty Hunter, Ezanga.com, one Bat Boat whose name I couldn't read, and another Bat boat backing in as I left. Several more race team trucks in the lot. Haven't made it to the pits yet, but heard quite a few are there.

Weather is supposed to be perfect throughout the weekend - sunny and in the low '80s.

Spoke to Smitty, beautiful race site, everything is in close proximity to the course. 30 boats already registered, expecting three of four more before the end of the day.

He said the lake was a little bumpy, nothing big.

Stay tuned.

Saw the hard stuff by Wahoo ... broke out the windshield and tore away part of the canopy. Both OK without serious injury. No pics, but there should be some floating around.

just got in from Mentor. we had a great time (except for stuff'in the boat :D ) the water was a bit on the evil side out on the lake today. first off i would like to thank everyone at the race for their concern to see that we were OK. everyone made it a point to ask how were doing after they saw the boat and found out what happened. everyone had their hands full out there in something we here on Erie call "washing machine chop" :D . competition was fierce with all of us work'in over time to find a rhythm and find a clean line. we were all running pretty hard and coming down the front straight on the last lap on the run for the flag (not sure what place we were in) we caught a rouge wave that tripped us hard at about 70 and nosed in. front/sides of canopy suffered significant damage as well as the top. it happened so fast and so hard i blacked out for a few seconds. came to with my hand going for my air because we had a cockpit full of water. after a few seconds i got breath back and Dean and I started to get our wits about us and we saw that a large part of the canopy was gone including both front screens and sides. after discovering that we were both pretty much OK we got the boat started and headed to the first yellow flag that was at the start finish line and we were able to eek out a 3rd place finish. we are sore but OK. we actually got out of the crashed Armada (this was not a Reindl) batboat and got into the Race Frenzy P-2 14 AMT cat for another 8 laps  . . . . . Dean, you need to double my salary :D :p . . . . being our first time racing the cat we did what we could to run with the P-2 guys and they showed us the stuff. great race guys and we learned alot, looking forward to next time.

once again Team WahooATV would like to thank the race staff, safety and support crews, all the racers and all involved for thier professionalisim and concern. this is why we race and OPA is the best. thanks guys for another great race

oh . . . and thanks for the prayer Kieth. i think thats what let us walk away :D

I believe Bounty Hunter took a 4th. Mike told me afterwards that they couldn't stay hooked up enough in the rough water to make speed. Bob (rmbuilder) looked great for his first time out!

We had a great view of the race, as we were on a tow line up most of the front straightaway :( As soon as the green flag dropped, we smelled fuel, even with an open boat and at race speeds with our helmets on. Split a fuel fitting that was spraying out a pretty steady stream. Figured it was best to shut down everything to race another day.

Smitty, Augie, OPA, Mark Walters, the GLOPRA staff all put on a first-class event. Mentor Harbor's facilities have recently been updated, and the MHYC people took great care of us. Mark, your Dad would be proud of what you've done with this one.

Thanks everyone, and see ya in St. Clair!

I saw the bottom of the Bat Boat a few times. Looked like a wild ride. Once thought you guys were at a 90* side angle  You guys have big ones!

SKramer's dad: I didn't see your post until today. Thanks for the offer. We cruised by the Zoo Saturday evening around 7pm. Didn't see anyone around or didn't go past the bridge.

Checked out the boats in the pits from the water and spoke to the PaPa Dukes. Nice to meet ya guys.

Great event! Congrats to all.

Funny how an hour after the race, the sun came out and the lake went flat.
Erie is.... well erie :drink:

On the chip did not take first overall. Traffic Light came up from behind in the last two laps and passed them. They were taking it easy on their engines since Lightning Jacks broke.

I'll have pics later once I get them developed. I didn't want to take a digital cam up in the chopper in case I had to leave it behind rather quickly. I took 54 shots.

Greetings All,

I just wanted to take a moment to Thank Everyone involved in putting on such a great event in Mentor, Oh this weekend.

We've heard nothing but praise all weekend. Mentor Harbor Yachting Club (MHYC) and our title sponsor, Cleveland Construction Inc., were extremely pleased with all of the race teams that were able to be at the race and the race teams were quite happy with the site and all of the hospitality extended to them over the weekend.

Most importantly, the races went off without any major difficulties and all of the racers came back safe. I even believe that there are a few teams out there (their names will not be mentioned) that found out our little pond known as "Lake Erie" can live up to her name.

I had a wonderful time this weekend and it was a great pleasure to be part of such a fantastic event!!!

Thanks again to EVERYONE!!
Look forward do seeing everyone in St. Clair

Mark,
Thank you to GLOPRA,BWORA,OPA,MHYC and of course; Cleveland Construction for putting on the event.

The drastic change in the water conditions certainly suprised us;we had the boat set up for the flat conditions that we tested in on Saturday; and that were predicted on Sunday.

While we were very disappointed that we had mechanical problems and were unable to finish,we really had a great time throughout the weekend. We had to leave right after the race due to work commitments early on Monday morning, so we were unable to attend the awards.Congratulations to all the winners, and see everyone in St. Clair.
