P Class is gone

Scare ya????? No More P, Looking for a more professional approach. Loose all the P's

The classes will be identified by..
100
200
300
400
500
600

Example Typhoon P4-29 will now be 429

We are now Xtreme Offshore sanctioned by OPA

This is in effect as of today. I know most of you have been anxious to remove those P's, so letter rip. We are working on the new X logo we will have them for the worlds. Smitty

So our # will now be 409?

Good job! ORL will also loose the traditional F1 prefix. We'll unveil the new factory class insignia in Destin. Looking forward to it guys!

Re: P Class is gone

This makes sense. This is the number designation system utilized to distinguish classes in off road racing. The boats will look more professional;and combined with the Xtreme Offshore name ,will be more marketable to sponsors.Great job Smitty and OPA.

I knew you would like that Mark.

Re: P Class is gone

My .02 as a former P class racer the word XTREME is over used and kind of cheesey. I like the idea of changing the numbers though. If anyone needs new numbers for DESTIN I can make them for you. OPA has done a great job with an Awesome series.

Wazzup Racing 09-27-2006 05:10 PM

Re: P Class is gone

We are all ears Ryan....We need something other than P

BRUCE SEROFF 09-27-2006 05:24 PM

Re: P Class is gone

Smitty Im glad we are finally losing the "P". we dont need it

I agree, that the word Xtreme is definately overused. Are you looking to rename the association or just replace the name Performance class?

Wazzup Racing 09-27-2006 05:38 PM

Re: P Class is gone

Just the performance class. We should keep OPA

louietherigger 09-27-2006 05:39 PM

Re: P Class is gone

I think Xtreme Offshore sounds cool, it fits in with the current trend of most wild sports. Smitty we would be 206? If it is that would be great cause it's also my target weight for Destin. It will be refreshing for us not to have pee on our boat. :D Thanx for everything in Cambridge.

Louie

I know I was pushing this issue some time ago and I didn't care if you went to a letter system or a 3 digit number system, just as long as you lost the P.... ;)

Back then I had little support to make an impact on the change at the "Big Meeting".

But as the saying goes..... "Good things come to those who wait!" :D

I had a feeling sooner or later OPA would make this change.
I think the set back at that time was because OPA didn't want to see the racers having to make changes racing between organisations, which is totally exceptable.

Apparently there hasn't been much crossing over this season that I am aware of between SBI & OPA.

OSS is already in a number only system.

So my hat is off to OPA!
It truely shows they do listen and entertain all ideas.
Whether you are racing or not..... :drink:

THANK YOU OPA!

You have done a huge justice to the new fans trying to understand the classes and see who is racing who!

Best of luck to all in Destin! :drink:

I would assume these boats would now just use a single or double digit number. Most of these boats never had a PX in front of thier numbers anyway.

Re: P Class is gone

Guy's after Ocean City Smitty said to me it's TIME! Anyone who raced that day belongs in a EXTREME Catagory, are professional racers as you DO get paid to race and you all have some pair of ball$. The "X" will be designed and fitting to The Jersey Boyz/OPA Image. Smitty, you the man! :blaster: :evilb:

And what is wrong with XTREME??? :D

Ted G 09-28-2006 07:46 AM

Re: P Class is gone

The number idea is great and I know you made some guys really happy :p

Of course the ideal name would be ______________ Xtreme Offshore or The _____________ Offshore Tour (or Series, or Challenge, or Chase) with the blank filled in with a series sponsor. This is a perfect opportunity for a big sponsor to get in on a growing organization at a (relatively) low price. And they would have the assurance that for at least 2 years there will be nothing but growth since no disruptions of equipment, rules, or venues are likely. That on top of the possible tv series (the Augie show :D )guarantees a sponsor huge recognition and bang for the buck.

One suggestion would be to use 0 . Example: 02 or 0-13

The O can be considered the abreviation for the "OPEN" Class which means anything goes.

Just a thought. :drink:

Good going guys!! We trully wanted to hit a couple of your races this year, but it just didn't work out!! Hopefully next year we can. Look forward to seeing some of you in Chattanooga!!

Here is some of my "wishful thinking" along the same lines as the new numbering system. I wish there was some way for the spectators to understand the classes a little better. But something like...
70 - then the ##
75 - then the ##
85 - then the ##
95 - then the ##
105 - then the ##
and it would be easier for the general public if it was just 70, 80, 90, 100, etc.
just wishfull thinking!!! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Congrats OPA!!!!! I think this will be better for the spectator base to associate more with what is going down on the race course now. Very pleased to see OPA's attention to racer suggestions as well with this. Good luck to all of you in Destin.
