The Offical Results are now available on www.oparacing.com. Congratulations to all of the OPA - OSS winners. It was a great week of racing. Yes there was some drama but that keeps things interesting...to say the least.
Of course some people love to see the drama but don't let that take your eye off the good things that happened in Destin. The big news of the week was the unveiling of the Geico sponsored boat. This is big folks. Team AMF has done it again and landed the biggest boat sponsorship to date. Believe it or not
Haggin has a plan - a vision and he's got the $$ to make it all happen. This isn't talk, this isn't pipe dreams, this is happening and you're all a part of it. It will be a big benifit to all of the teams if you know how to leverage the exposure. Enjoy the show as it unfolds in 2007.
Boomer - Smitty's son - opened the awards after being introduced by Al Copeland. Boom had written a speech that he wrote about how much offshore racing means to his family and asked if he could read it in front of the crowd of 300 that packed AJ's bar. It was awesome, written from the heart of a 12 year old. It brought a tear to almost everyone that listened and he got the loudest applause of the evening. it was the best Awards ceremony I ever attended. Boomer and Al made it a very really special moment. What other kid would have the stones to address such a large audience?
Boomer, you amazed everyone. I thought you were gonna choke for a minute, but then you put your head down and read it. Great Job!!!!!!! It was the best start to any awards.
On behalf of OPA, I'd like to thank everyone from OSS and POPRA. We learned a lot about each other this year and it's turned into a relationship that we can build on for the future. Misty, Stan and Tom, you guys were the glue that held it all together. Without your help, a joint World Championship would have remained a dream for all of us. You guys Rock!!!!!!!
To Tyler Crocket and Grumpy Old George. Thanks for the laughs. You guys are really good sports about loosing so much.
Looks like the old hull wasn't too happy about holding that big power, but at least you didn't sink this year.evilb: Hope to see you back next year with a newer hull.
The 2007 season should be even better as OPA continues to offer no entry fee racing with a focus on fun. We look forward to bringing even more racers out of the woodwork in 2007 and introduce or reintroduce them to Offshore Racing, Jersey Boyz style.
I look forward to seeing y'all again in 2007. Enjoy the off season!
