July 29, 2008: Great weather, close racing action, and an exceptional food midway made the 2008 St Clair River Classic a huge success as record crowds on both the US and Canadian sides of the river came out to enjoy the weekend’s events.
With nearly 50 boats competing in both Production and Pro-Series classes’ boat racing fans were treated to some very exciting up close racing action.
In the Pro-Series Extreme class Team Cintron debut their new Mystic. The new gas powered boat provided some of the weekends fastest lap times as it went head to head with the Geico Turbine Extreme entry. Both boats won their respective classes.
In Cat Lite, the series welcomed the return of the Hatcher Brothers, who always run hard to “mix it up” in the class, but in the end, the day belonged to Bob Teague and Paul Whittier as Team Amsoil took the win in Cat Lite.
Super Cat class provided some the weekend’s best action for the fans as the US1/JD Byrider entry took the early lead. However as the race unfolded, it was Reliable Carriers who made their way to the front of the pack and when the race was cut short due to commercial river traffic, it was Tom Abrams and Steve Curtis in the colorful #20 hometown favorite that took the checkered flag.
The Offshore Pro-Series wants to thank OPA, the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, all of the hard working volunteers and the dedicated offshore fans for making this year’s River Classic a roaring Success.
