The World Cup suggestions

Anybody have any input on naming the new World Cup that we are putting together for the Worlds for the Production Class Championships, It will go to the Organization that wins the most 1st place World Championships in the P5 to P1 Class's and be rewarded to that org in K.W. and be returned each year at the Worlds and up for grabs again...each year will have the winnings Orgs name ingraved on the Cup.....

It will be between SBI/APBA, OPA and POPRA....I don't know of any teams from across the pond are racing in P-Class...but if they are there Org is also quilfied for the Cup...

Looking for some names to call it...like the:

The Racers Organization Production World Cup
The SBI/APBA, OPA, POPRA Production Cup

any other names....

2 Trick Rick 10-27-2008 01:38 PM

Just call it OPA's Cup :party-smiley-004:

MANITIE 10-27-2008 01:42 PM

That will draw some attention....

Wahoo ATV 10-27-2008 02:24 PM

Sell the naming rights. I'll pay $100 to name it the Wahoo Cup.

2 Trick Rick 10-27-2008 02:34 PM

See as the idea was conceived during an election year call it the "Presidents Cup"

TYPHOON 10-27-2008 04:25 PM

What happens if the OPA teams race with OSS next year like they did in Destin?

That will be news to me....I thought most OPA guys felt the Worlds should be in K.W.

It should not be called "Production Class" or "P-Class"...that is not descriptive of the boats that are racing in Classes 1-6 in any of the organizations.I also think SBI should drop the P designations...too confusing considering a substantial part of thier fleet is made up of boats these classes.

MANITIE 10-27-2008 05:20 PM

In OPA we call it Class 1 - 6
In SBI/APBA its call Production Class....that name has been around for a long time....I don't see any reason to change it know....but thats not my call thats the Orgs to make...

But in the mean time since its Class and Production Class's we should keep it what its name is.....

DareDevil 10-27-2008 05:33 PM

Just call it "ORGANIZATION WORLD CUP"

then nobody will get confuised.

byrideroffshore 10-27-2008 07:40 PM

FUNNER HOW !!!!!!!!!

Xtremeracing 10-28-2008 07:04 AM

Gino,
What about ....World Challenge Cup

It is a challenge between the different organ.
Wahoo has a good idea it could be sponsored by someone if they want to pay .

Wahoo ATV 10-28-2008 08:11 AM

It would also be nice to be able to work in the racers we lost some how. Not sure if it is on this trophy, but some way to remember them for years to come would be appropriate.

DareDevil 10-28-2008 08:22 AM

Agree, not a bad idea.

Production should be replaced with Performance.
Use of World or Worlds should be dropped totally as it is
not a world event. Should be North American Championships.
Gino's cup could be called American Challenge Cup.
Class 5 year end hi points trophy should be Reiter Cup.

Rich

MANITIE 10-28-2008 09:15 AM

Frank...I like the World Challenge Cup....

Every Org has a shoot at the Cup...even if they are from across the pond.....

Rich....I also like the idea of the Class 5 Championship call the Riter Cup.....

For next year....We can find a series sponsor for the Cup....and we can spit up the money to all P Class teams that make K.W.

The Cup will be done on Thurs morning...I will post a picture of it on here....

MANITIE 10-28-2008 10:58 AM

1 Attachment(s)
Here is a picture of the Cup.....

It will be on a differant base that is 7 inches high and then the Cup stands another 14 inches high and the diamiter of the Cup is 11 inches....

The face plate will be on the front and have the Cups name on it and then we can start ingraving it starting this year...as the years go on and the face place fills up we then can add more plates on each of the 4 sides....

I want to thank Al at CrownTrophys for putting this trophy together....

TYPHOON 10-28-2008 02:14 PM

Call it what it is "The P Cup"

Randy, as a Board Member of OSS. Think First. Type Second

MANITIE 10-29-2008 10:18 AM

Smitty....I tought the same thing....it reminds me of another board member that they fired.....

FunHome 10-29-2008 10:24 AM

I think it is a cool idea.... But what happened to "UNITED WE RACE"??

I thought the goal was to get away from dividing everyone, staying away from "Oh, he's a SBI guy, and he's a OPA guy"

I understand your idea, kinda like the old APBA divisions....

(this just supports the idea that we all need to be one organization under one name and have divisional races, a national series and one world championship!!)

MANITIE 10-29-2008 10:38 AM

Funhome.....the reality is we will never just be 1 Org....there has never been....but we can work on racing together on certain occasions....like the Worlds...

The reason I tought it would be a cool idea is that the teams that race in OPA a large amount of there racers are from the North...and a lot of SBI/APBA racers are from the South...and the POPRA teams are out West...and the Guys across the pond.... we all get along and love racing together but logistically its to hard to do....We have a great time when we race together....and there is always a little trash talking....its just a little way on having a little compitition and bragging rights.....and having fun....thats really why we all are racing....

Reindl Powerboats 10-29-2008 01:45 PM

We'll pay $200 for the Naming Rights... Have fun guys and bring it home!

thoughts

geico should take over the "worlds"

the triple crown events topped all other races these year. don't know the totals on boat count but the opa/triple crown races seemed to have the biggest turnouts.

There was only one organization..APBA; until the mid eighties.

But what happend since and how many....to many ego's.....to easy to start your own Org if poeple don't like what you do....I was not around racing in the mid 80's....but I have seen whats going on since I started in 2000.....In todays economy...I don't see a small team like 50% of teams are today traveling the country.....

Just my opion...but its based on whats been going on....

I only agree with that GEICO's Tripple Crown was great....but the last I checked...I cannot just go in and take over someone else's business because I think I can do a better job....especailly when he has a contract with the town....

John H has been putting up stupid money since he got involved in this sport.....just becasue someone has a big name sponsor and deep pockets dose not mean he should buy our problems away that we casued....Over the years you are seeing more and more teams expecting Geico to take care of all the racers.....thats not the answer to fixing our sport...Its a great purk and generosity from the Gieco team..but when we start expecting it...its taking advantage of the Owner and Team...

Just my .02 cents

Up until the mid eighties, APBA was the only sanctioning body. There was a uniform set of national rules governing every aspect of the sport. There was a true national circut of eight to ten races held all over the country. The national races were for all classes including the one premiere class (OPEN/UIM CLASS 1).This was supported by regional circuts(NE,SE,C and W) conducted by APBA sanctioned clubs. The regional races were for the three ,to as many as eight, smaller classes depending on the year.

The season ending APBA/UIM world championship had boats from all over the country and the world. The OPEN/UIM CLASS 1 had a uniform set of international rules.

This is the format we should be looking to re-establish for our sport.

I agree its how it should be...but since 2003...you seen whats happend.....its 5 years later....the only differants is that OPA is the NE, SBI/APBA is SE, POPRA is W and OSS is C....only differance is they are run but differant Orgs....and we are all invited to K.W.....even if we ran under the same flag...the boat counts in the Orgs would be the same....

But with a low number of racers out here today and more class's then the 80's of course your boat count per class will drop....The org that has the best to offer a team will get the bigger boat count....but with so many options to race in your not going to see 20+ boats in one class....

Personally...if the rules changed today that they will only be 5 class in the whole country to race in Offshore...I would build a boat to fit that class or take my current boat and power it to fit one of the class's.....but not everyone is in that possition to do that....so we work with what we have.....
