Ocean City Md Race Coarse
 

Ocean city is one of the greatest places to race. The only negative has been the fact that the race coarse is so far off shore, you cant see the boats. The reason for this has been the safety of the swimmers, and surfers. Over the winter we have had multiple meetings with the City, Coast Guard, beach patrol, etc.
Last night the City council, decided the race has a large enough impact in the City, to warrant the closing of the beaches on Sunday, allowing us to bring the race up close and personal. This is huge. Not only for the race, but for the sport, that a city like Ocean City sees the value in Offshore. That they would close the beaches allowing us to put on a show for the fans.

This could not have happened without the help of Bill Purnell, Wil Lynch, Gieco "Mikey," and most of all Master Chief Carter, US CG Ocean City. Thanks for the help Guys. Awsome Job. Smitty

Sweet, I always come down to the races but hated that the boats ran so far offshore. Great work!!!!

That is great news good job to all involved in making that happen.I hope that all of the organizations can come together and make this a huge event with a huge boat turn out and put all of the politics asside and reward a city for doing what it takes to make this event even better.:cool:

While other towns are missing the impact such events have on the businesses in their towns, Ocean City knows what it takes to keep the businesses open and full of patrons.

Offshore Racing may be one of them but have a look at what Jersey just lost out on to Ocean City after an 18 year history of an event:

And just for the record OC is my all time favorite site. Its close to home, fun,great for the family,great launch ramp,great Coast Guard participation and always has good water for ocean racing. Bill and Will have two great hotels and the town is behind racing. Its a perfect 10 in my book.

That's Awsome! 2006 we were close to the beach and it was great! I hope there will be a live feed from supercat, So we can watch up close.

Adrenaline Rush from OPA and OSS will be there.Had an awesome time last year even though we didnt finish.Will be there even if I dont have a boat.Personally I dont care who's race it is,I just want to race.

And the same can be said for the OSS races, if you have never been to Biloxi they roll out the red carpet! with that being said, a true Ocean race is right around the corner, with the Miami to Bimini run. who will make that one???
It works both ways, and could be a shot in the arm that the sport needs.

I think its safe to say that most racers wish they could make every race regardless of whose race it is. I just dont know very many who can afford to do that ... :bunny:

I think the best thing that could happen to the sport is to have everyone under one organization and all race together but that will not happen because there are to many hidden agendas among the racers.One org with 2 races a month would be great but the last time it was close to that with Mike A and company many people did not like it and started different orgs for what ever they felt was needed for them and now they are all having problems also.If I had unlimited funds I would do nothing but run from race to race but well the last time I looked the funds were not there.I only hope that someday everyone comes together and stays there.There are alot of cities out there that deserve to be treated better with better boat counts but like this past weekend in Miami the count was what 11 boats,not good.
