Default Rule Change Idea #3 ??

Whenever room and conditions permit each course will contain one right hand turn on a left hand course or one Left hand turn in a right hand course.

# My idea behind this is to keep people from owning the inside line and running away. As you know with P Class racing the inside line is ALWAYS the dominate lane and if you have one opposite side turn it will help the fallowing boats make time and provide better racing.

Simple kidney shaped course.

Hi Rick Merry Christmas!
We tried it at Patchogue and its a great idea, the problem we encountered was the spectator boats thought it gave them the room to move into the danger zone thinking it was a natural safe area so we had to scrap it. I do think it is a great idea and will be a great addition to any course that can handle it as in less spectator boats.

The first year at Patchogue I was amazed at how rude some of the spectator boats were, even refusing to move after the anchored in the course.

Maybe a smaller set of "outside" lane markets along that straight with the turn ??

biggest problem i have seen on any course i have been on with the odd turn is the general rule we use of keeping the slower traffic to the inside lanes. This gets confusing/dangerous when running several different speed bracketed classes at one time. Slower boats simply cannot swap lanes or give enough room to the faster boats and become turn buoys/obstacles. It can get ugly and can even get in the way of an individual classes ability to have a safe and fair race. It has worked though, Destin 06 was like that but it was a large course if memory serves. It also works where classes cannot overtake any of the slower ones or the boats are all in the same class, a luxury we dont always have.

At some courses a long lap like in Europe would be cool.

Marathon SBI had one right turn, just after reentering the gulf from the bridge.

I don't think they were rude, well one a hole was, but I think it was more of a learning thing for them as well as us. Last year we deployed over 160 buoys and markers and the course was kept clear. The inside turn would draw them in like a magnet for sure once they figure out the boats are turning inside the buoy.
