Class 6 question........

If I build a 26' canopy boat with a 525 efi, an extension box with a Bravo 1 can I run it in class 6?????

I mean we have Bat boats in our class already?????:coolcowboy:

You guys wont mind right???

That way I can get my practice in for an SVL.:party-smiley-004:

Well I would but thats a few years out Rich. Plus I dont want to be in last place all the time when I make the switch. This way I have a few hundred hours in a canopy boat when I switch over.

Thanks!!!!

If I recall the rules said no canopied boats in 5 or 6 *other than the 24ft Bat Boat.

I would personally be fine with it, but I would say it would depend on a class vote I think.

As long as the approx. top speed of your 26' Canopy boat with a 525 and box etc. doesn't exceed say about 75 mph, I think it will fit in nicely. By the way I have one allready started, so if you just want to finish it up you can.

TylerCrockett 10-28-2011 07:21 PM

I have already fitted the face sheild off Gary Cooks helmet over our 26' Joker and put bigger power in to fit the 75 MPH max in Class 6 :D The speeds we are running in class 6 now Canopys will be manatory soon !!!!!!!!!!

You are like way to proud of that lol

gary cook 10-29-2011 09:18 AM

I was thinking if nobody in our class had a problem with it i would like to build a ls 1 with a small blower to run this year .
I think it would make around 500 hp wink wink what do you think.:daz:

Pwrbt33 10-29-2011 09:37 AM

Gary I think that would be acceptable only if we have the engine dyno'd by Johnny Saris. Maybe after u get it done he can come listen to it and verify its only 500.:lolhit:

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Send me some info and pics of what you have please. Might be interested rather than building new.:coolcowboy:

Thanks!

I would check with Smitty before building or buying a canopy boat for class 6. All the teams would have to agree to allow it to race in 6, unless it was a batboat.

georgeeisenhart 11-03-2011 08:18 AM

I didn't think Gary's face shield was that big!! Is it possible Tyler only covered his side of the boat??? Bilgerat has it right its called Class 3--- unless of course Garys' face shield is big enough to cover my side as well, then it will become a great idea. Grumpy G -- Tyler Quote!! Plenty of great deals on cars on Craigslist right now John. You don't have to go all Corvette/Bad Boy your first time out. I'm thinking a sliced roof off a 1987 Honda CRX, three rolls of Gorilla tape; and you've got yourselves a canopied Joker. :D

TeamSaris 11-03-2011 08:38 AM

Just cut the lif off Randy's svl....he wont notice

its really only a hull bottom with stringers, and the canopy idea kind of looks like Ricks cat when he started all plywood, haven't actually worked on it much. Winterizing like mad right now, but hopefully this winter I can get some work done on the project or find something inexpensive that is allready together, I know mine will be better assembled myself, but it seems time is hard to come by to work on this stuff.

Hmmm. You might see a new green one at a race or two next year!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xRz0lXOMn8

The boat comes on the video at about the one minute mark.

36 Tango,
What class are you going to run? Welcome to OPA!

As long as you learn how to steer it! Welcome to class 6.

Now thats F@#%ing funny right there!!!!

I may have to develop a Bat Boat magnet to throw in everyones boat next season just to better my odds!!!:coolcowboy:

gary cook 11-04-2011 07:42 AM

Whats all this talk about the bad bat boat who ran over who thats why i stay away from the demo brothers
We dont break out because we want to its fear of the demo team turning me into red powder.:hitfan:

Fast Shafts 11-04-2011 07:46 AM

Maybe they think by leaving the canopy doors open it gives the boat more lift??

We just have a year under our belt in it, so if it shows up it would probably not be us behind the wheel. I have been working with Chris Reindl in making the boat the best it can be. There is no way that I would put myself or others in harms way by entering in a boat or with a crew that was not totally capable.

I just couldn't skip over the "I hate batboats" thing without saying something!

Fast Shafts 11-04-2011 08:29 AM

36, I don't think anyone really hates Bat Boats. All comments were made in jest. In case you didn't know, SBRacing's boat was "speared" by a Bat boat last year at Orange beach and almost sunk. Some of the comments here are just poking fun at that. Busting balls is our way of saying "welcome" to class 6. :drink:

Speaking of bats, anyone know what happened to the boat that was sold out of Tennesee and then North Carolina? The all white one? I was in town on business and by the time I got out of the meetings I missed it by barely an hour. Just curious if anyone's putting it back together.

The video was fully funded by our sponsors and they wanted the message and logo on the inside of the doors to be seen. We do not actually run it like that very much. We do ALOT of appearances off the water. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, hence the theme. It might be a pretty low budget "team", but we do a pretty good job in getting the word out about the importance Early Detection while having a little bit of fun.

We are located about 3 hours west of Chicago.

We are here at LOTO with a Marina, and Race Experience. If you need help with things let me know. Jim and I ran a bat boat for about a lap in Chattanooga, it was neat but of course this one did not run very well. Then i think it was sent to Jim's shop to be tuned properly.

What marina do you have? Our place is just past the GG Bridge. The motor was pulled last week (fuel injected 383) to be freshened, dyno'ed and tuned. We also pulled the dash as we are adding a complete compliment of new Livosri gauges with custom faces, and all new wiring from bow to stern (10 years around salt). Lastly, we will be installing a Bravo 3 lower and attempt to tune some props for it. The B1 might be faster, but with less than 5 feet wide at the water line, the prop torque kind of sucks, and the manners around the docks is even worse. I'd switch to a DPX, but just don't have the $$$ to do so. As long as we can hit 75 mph and handle well, I will be happy. Hpefully we can get there with the B3. Hopefully the weather will allow us to be on LOTO in February to try it all out!

Sorry about the thread hijack. I had never even considered racing this boat until I spent some time on Lake Meade with Chris Reindl a month ago or so. Since then, I have been lurking in all of the OPA threads to learn more about it.

Don't hesitate to post any questions. Most of the class 6 teams are on this forum, so ask away. Bilgerat knows what he is doing. He has an impressive resume with Simmons Racing.

Bravo 3 lower sounds like a great Idea ( i think i had that idea once as well ) anyhow Mercury makes some XR props for the 3 now with a 4 blade in front and a 3 blade out back pretty cool stuff.

I sent you a PM, but I will for sure contact you when we bring it to the lake for testing in probably February. I need a guy in the drivers seat that knows what he is doing.
