The Metallica Concert at Bader Field on the same weekend Saturday & Sunday, 300 + Custom Car & Motorcycle Show and the annual NJPPC Poker Run on Friday & Fun Run Saturday, I don't see AC having a problem selling out rooms that weekend therefore not having a "real need" to have an additional event" such as an offshore race to bring people in and fill the hotels and casinos.

They may not want to stress the resources they have to handle the concert and car show as well as a boat race. The car show seems to be the curve ball in this scenario.

Just thinking logically...

I don't know how much planning has been going on, but if they are just getting the OK now, then it's back to trying to put another race on without enough time to give it 100% .

My thought would be, start planning Atlantic City now for 2013 . The City & the OPA could make it HUGE provided they get the time to do it.

It would be great if it happens, but even greater if there is enough time to plan it with enough resources available...

I always thought that the idea was to have the NJPPC Poker Run & OPA Race on the same weekend.

Besides, it's AC there's always lots going on in AC. Hell, even Ringo Starr is gonna be in town that weekend (So is The Romantics & Jim Gaffigan) At least there is nothing going on at the Convention Center that weekend. (Police Security Expo starts June 26)

If memory serves me correctly, the last race we had in NJ was in Sept of 2009. I just want to see a race in NJ for 2012!!!

Guys be patient, I am sure the OPA will give us ample notice if this race is on or not. They already realize that it is only 2 months away and that the racers do have lives and jobs back home that if the race is to happen, the racers need to make the proper arrangements to be there. I agree with ya Dee, would love to race again in NJ, however just once would love to race there where the staff of OPA didnt have to pull teeth from the shore towns just to have it.

I would much rather have 5 strong races than 8 weak ones anyways and maybe the focus should be shifted to the towns that want us to come to their communities and make them stronger instead busting tail to be where they could care less...

ABSOLUTELY !
And I had always said it would be great to have a car show along with it to make it a full hi-performance weekend !

It just seems that C3 and Orion Music had all of their ducks in a row way ahead of time and just might have beat OPA to it... ???

That's why it is so necessary to plan events at the minimum of a year in advance... ;)

I agree. But this Orion concert and the boat race I believe to have 2 completely different demographics.

The more and more I become involved, the more & more I see how hard it is to plan an boat race event. Just seems to be road blocks every where and in every town (site). I truly feel for site organizers.

DEMOGRAPHICS really doesn't matter when they are just trying to fill the rooms in the hotels.

Typically an organization would be able to get several comped rooms for its staff which is a huge benefit for an organization. If the hotels have no issue with selling out, then you won't see them comping anyone for anything adding the additional expense back to the organization.

Especially with the Casino earnings of late, it would be tough anyway for them to give up much....

Real problem lies with our government, every site gets the same story, they have no money for police, fire dept's. etc for O.T. to assist at race sites. But if someone who hasn't been on duty for 30 years kicks the bucket they bring out every piece of equipment short of a Sherman tank, close streets and make detours with no concern.
So when your at a site that has authorities that help make the events happen don't forget to thank them or vote for them when they run for re-election. And oh yeah don't vote for the ones that are only concerned with their vacations and pensions.
Probably shouldn't have said that but I did.:party-smiley-004:

Maybe the local promoter should go talk to REVEL!!! Talk about money being spent. I really hope AC goes off. Such a great site.

If it was me and I had an in it would already been done. I am not a gambler so I really have no ins in AC at all. I understand the Casino's are hurting but I would think they would try to bring events in to help the business but what do I know.

I've never been a gambler as well (I do that enough of that stuff on a daily basis). But here's a question to ponder ............ How many rooms do Casinos comp on a regular basis? I know A LOT of people that would never go to AC if it wasn't for the free rooms.

Most things are still hurtin' in this economy ... but ya gotta give a little to get something in return
