Class 1- 115mph
Class 2- 100 mph
Class 3- 90 mph
Class 4- 80 mph
Class 5- 70 mph (decal change only, rules are same)

Go ahead, bash away, was just thinking, what do i know....:lolhit:
That's simple and to the point..less classes and more boats per class.

K.I.S.S. = keep it simple stupid

TeamSaris 01-13-2013 07:05 PM

If you want to keep it simple why propose to change anything? lol I mean yeah I think we can all agree on bringing back Class 2...but beyond that...it really isnt broke...so dont try and fix it.

All I ever said was change the decal on the boat to say 5; leave what is known as Class 6 alone, it has the count, besides the outrageous hp, it aint broke. As you see from the average class count per class I posted, I see no reason to have a total of 6 bracket classes, period. I mean we havent had 6 bracket classes total since my return in 2010 and boats in 3 have wanted to move up, etc. Has anyone thought to look back at what the bracket speeds were when there was a ton of boats racing in the brackets? I'll give ya a hint, its on the front page of this thread......

TeamSaris 01-13-2013 07:20 PM

You say 6 isnt broke....does that mean 3-5 are? Just asking

2 Trick Rick 01-13-2013 07:26 PM

I have always been a big supporter of less classes and larger boat counts. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.

This was just for discussion for a class 5 guy who dosent want to go 80 mph but would like to run with the new class 5 but boat length would be a issue so it dosent matter any way.

But the proposed way you out lined would work fine and limit one extra class more possible payout its somthing to think about.

Also open boats at a 105 mph could be a possible insurance problem so the speed may have to be below 100 mph.

Also for the betterment of the sport all of the boats that want to run in the 105 mph or class 2 could run in 95 mph or class 3 or adjust the speed to fit all so its a bigger boat count combine two classes into one just a thought

TeamSaris 01-13-2013 10:43 PM

Anyone else tell its winter? :D

Listed below is when the National Championships were clinched:

Class 3: Tawas (second race of the season)
Class 4: Ocean City (first race of the season)
Class 5: Tawas (second race of the season)

You tell me...

And moving the speeds up 5mph will fix that how? If anything, the money the teams spent to travel to Mich...will be spent on props, gears and engine upgrades. If you really want to shrink the number of classes, eliminate SV, bring back class two...I bet all of 3 moves into 2. Problem solved.
And it all goes back to what Mikey said for Class 5, and many congrats to Jake on his Championship!
Im not following ya here man. I really dont think its broke.

Your right youngster!!! Maybe I got delusional from hearing the OPA class 5 guys that ran 80 and were saying that it was so much more fun, maybe seeing the OPA Class 5 boats going into to Key West and walking the dog @ 80. You keep saying engine upgrades, is OPA that far out of control? No engine upgrades needed. And if a team cant afford a 400 prop, I would hate to see how many teams are lost when they have to pay entry fees to each race. And sorry, I might be out of line, but if the teams would use the formula that is in the OPA rulebook that I posted earlier in this thread, easy way to find their prop, I mean how much money does using a calculator cost?

Johnny, I'll be blunt. I would have much rather spent my sunday relaxing by the pool and watching football than my phone ringing off the hook with other racers asking and I must quote this one,"Why are you arguing with a child?" I'm a little fed up with looking like an idiot defending you. Thats what friends do and I always will, so I beg of you, go ahead get the last word in and move on. I am pretty positive the guys that only race the locals and part time will vote it down. Nothing will change and offshore will keep on keeping on. Best of luck to ya this season

Yeah I'm sure the 5mph difference from 75 to 80 made everything SO much more fun.
Now, I may be out of line here, after all I am a child, but Id be willing to bet your phone was not in fact "ringing off the hook" today with racers asking you that. Simply put if that many racers were behind you, Id bet more than 1 or 2 would be here defending you. But, they're not.
I see how clever you've been here with your wording, "get the last word in and move on" because If I dont reply, big man Trent "wins." And If I do reply I look like an annoying little punk, well, getting the last word in.
Now its news to me that this is a hostile argument and Im a little disappointed in you for that, that being said Im not going to respond in a hostile way because were supposed to be professionals...or something like that.
My point is this. I think you will be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't agree with you on the less classes/bigger classes argument. I do think there is a simpler way of doing it, which involves a lot less changes...which you've yet to explain to me why it wont work.
But ya know what, its none of my business. Do I race a Super Vee? Nope. Do I race a Class 3 boat? Nope. Hell, Im not even in Class 5 anymore.
So I guess I will move on, and you can tell all the people calling you that you made the child run away with his tail between his legs (HA), I dont really care. I trust Smitty to make the right call.
See ya in AC.

BTW...ask my cousin about the little talk her and I had today. I BET you feel differently after it.

Johnny

Wazzup Racing 01-14-2013 09:46 AM

Back to the original question, Yes there will be a class 2 in OPA. SV is done. We can discuss speeds....probably 105. Anybody think they can hang with a little 525 Fountain????

DriverofDonzi 01-14-2013 10:48 AM

Smitty.....

You know I am not a racer just yet but why SV is done??? I mean Class 2 and SV mean same????

Please clear that one for me.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Smitty, we appreciate it. We are probably the heaviest boat in Class 5 - even with good power, 80 MPH would be a very tough change for us. Thanks for keeping the rules stable.

WOW!! I think we need to set up a slot car track for the off season. I mean holy crap everybody must be bored or need something competitive to do cause this thread has turned into some serious rambling on and on and on. lol.

It is however an interesting read.

BTW we are going to be racing Icebergs in Feburary if anybody is interested.

Take Barry's Cigarette for example, or Whoz Your Daddy, or Country Service in C6...i dont think any of them can just "squeeze another 5mph out and still be competitive.

You got it Johnny - as probably the heaviest Class 5 hull out there, I'd probably have to get Steve to build ANOTHER 100 horsepower, then how's the drive going to handle that?

As you know, it's not just top speed, but accelleration out of the turns, a 1979 boat has a lot of resin mass to get back up to speed.

We're in for 2013, but at 80 MPH, we're out.

I'm sure I can get Jeffrey to pull back on the sticks to make sure you get a good look at the transom for a couple races...
