Why no purse? No sponsors??

The reasons for such was discussed at the drivers meeting in Solomons. I know some teams were not in attendance. You can call an OPA representative to discuss the reasons. The numbers can be found on the OPA website contact page.

We can have a race with no purse, or we can not have a race. None of us do this for the money..we do it for the love of going way too fast in a circle in the ocean

Of course, but someone is obviously putting up money to run the race. Those checks are nice when they pay for our gas and rooms and put on a show for the crowds that generate a lot of money for the city. I don't think we ask for too much,
