OPA comes to Lake of the Ozarks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
04//30/2014

Lake of the Ozarks (LOTO) is one of the biggest destinations for families in the Midwest for water sports and general relaxation from the hustle and bustle of their work weeks. Missouri is known as the "Show Me" State and the fine folks of LOTO have gone to the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) and said "Show Me some racing!!!" On the weekend of June 6-8, OPA has obliged and will bring their brand of offshore racing to the site known simply as "Lake Race".

"We are excited to be able to come in and be the producer of the Lake Race. Having the opportunity to work with promoter, Alvin Heathman, and his wonderful staff in order to put this together has been a pleasure and we look forward to racing at LOTO", commented Ed Smith (Smitty), President of OPA.

The Lake Race is presented by Mountain Dew and Formula Boats of Missouri. The action kicks off Thursday June 5 with the teams arriving to the race village and the Lake Race Props and Hoses Poker Run, continues with the Lake Race Street Party on the Historic Bagnell Dam Strip on Friday, finishing up with racing on Saturday and Sunday.

“Lake Race” is the 2nd stop on the OPA Racing National circuit. Lake Race schedule will contain 2 days of racing. All classes are schedule to run both days. OPA Racing Class prize purse is $35,000. In additional to the regular class racing, the “Run What you Brung” will be ran which has an additional $40,000 purse that will payout up to 5th place.
For more info on the Lake Race go to www.oparacing.org .

RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG

This class has a $40,000 purse that pays back five places and races for two days with the combined points determining the finishing order. If you own a Canopy Vee or Canopy Cat with 30 plus feet, you are able to compete!
  • 1st Place - $18,000
  • 2nd Place - $10,000
  • 3rd Place - $6,000
  • 4th Place - $4,000
  • 5th Place - $2,000

With the tortoise and the hare style racing, you don’t have to be the fastest to win, you have to be the most reliable for the Saturday and Sunday races!

AHHHHHHH, a law firm. Thanks, hope me and The Boyz DON'T need it but good to have in our back pockets. Now to the really important items, is there a place for me to cook?

Looks like OPA should really concentrate their energy on trying to put togather a better racing event. The people in Biloxi don't sound like they were impressed. I think you will have a hard time impressing fans at LOTO when most of them have pleasure boats faster then the OPA dinosaur fleet not to mention they seem to have trouble staying out of jail when there is a bar in town. http://smnewsnet.com/archives/79557

So what you are implying is your team SMB will not be racing with this outdated fleet of boats. Sounds like a waste of time for you guy's. That will be one less problem for OPA to have to deal with. Ever notice the $hit storm your team brings to EVERY race or event you go to !!!!!!!!!

While you certainly are entitled to your opinions and have the right to state them, I find it in poor taste to bring up the incident. Obviously, you are not a fan of OPA and that's OK. While I wouldn't consider our 2011 fuel injected boat a dinosaur, I will be the first to admit there are plenty of boats (pleasure and race) that are faster. But speed seems insignificant when 8 or 10 boats are all going into a turn at the same speed with the same intention.

TeamSaris 05-01-2014 08:31 AM

Well said Rich. Fact is, OPA has more boats in class 6 alone, then SBI did all last season.

Hey Dan, don't know why your so mad, must have your reasons. I feel OPA/The Jersey Boyz did a hell of a job for Biloxi givin' three weeks to put this event on with everyone knowing we couldn't promise 1 (ONE) boat but they wanted the race and you see what happened...Some people made a load of money, everyone got money for showing up (Expense Money) and the checks cleared. Now you DO KNOW I'm trying to get everyone excited about The Lake Of The Ozarks Race right? Nothing more, nothing less. Don't know why you would want to bad mouth us on an open forum for sponsors, women, children, Grandmothers and Grandfathers to read and that's your business, but I'm gonna ask you nicely to please keep it off The OPA/Jersey Boyz Forum, Thanks. Now if you would like to discuss anything about The Biloxi Race or any of our sites go to www.oparacing.org or www.thejerseyboyz.com , Smitty (President Of OPA), myself (Vice President Of OPA), Louie The Rigger (Director Of OPA) or Ron Polli (Director of Water Operations For OPA) phone numbers are all on there. My two cousins Val and Guilio were there along with Dee representing OPA/The Jersey Boyz and I can give you their numbers as they run registration and the cranes for us and witnessed everything first hand on what a great event it was. Dan, your welcome to come race with us anytime, who knows, you may have fun with us "OLD HAGS"! Be Well, Augie

You can be assured of a large fan base and great atmosphere at LOTO! LOTO loves performance boats and will greet all of the race teams with open arms.
There are most certainly some fast pleasure boats at LOTO, but racing a boat on a course is a totally different animal. The organizers did a fantastic job llast year with the inaugural race, and it will be bigger and better this year, especially with the addition onto the OPA circuit. Drag your boat up here, enjoy yourself, kick some ass, and then go home happy with a check in hand! We would all love to see you race!

AugiePensa 05-01-2014 03:37 PM

Thanks Tango, really cool of you.

My son and I met some of you a couple of years ago at the St Claire races. My son drove our green "Breast Cancer Awareness" boat to a 3rd place finish in class 6. We were total outsiders but every single one of you treated us like we were "one of you". My son is busy with college now, so we sold the boat, but we will remember that weekend forever. Sitting at the Buffalo Wild Wings downtown Iowa City watching the race a month later on Fox Sports was the icing on the cake! Any organization is only as good as the people in it, and the OPA clan is top notch, at least in my opinion.

Dan as the producer of the race site (Solomons) and a long time member of OPA I found this post very disturbing. We have all worked very hard to promote the sport and move forward in a positive direction. From what I heard about Boloxi the OPA staff did an awesome job with having never raced there before. Most of the OPA Teams are form the NE and had trouble making the LONG trip a week before the race in NJ. Taking a cheap shot is uncalled for and totally unprofessional.

As far as the incident in concerned I really want to thank you for bringing that back up. Please do not make comments about something that you have no clue about. Remember there are two sides to every story so don't judge until you have heard both. The past is the past and we can only move forward, learning from what has happened.

I am really excited about the race in Jersey this week! Its going to be a GREAT time and Jay has worked his a** off to get this event to happen. Thanks to Jay and all the race producers for all the hard work!

With that being said its time to go racing!!!!!!

AugiePensa 05-02-2014 07:19 AM

Damn, and I was trying to be level headed about this cause I'm gettin' OLD. Well Dan scratch what I suggested about calling Smitty, it's not in your best interest to call him.

Ron P 05-05-2014 04:45 PM

We'll have to do some go-cart racing one night. They got some great tracks there.
