Update 4 ** good news
Carlos is doing a lot better. They have had him up and walking and he was able to have some food this morning. He is ahead of schedule for the recovery from such a massive surgery and the doctors are planning on placing him in a room today.
A web site has been setup to help cover the cost for his medical bills. He is going to have a long recovery and the cost is high. We do not want him to worry about cost and only get better. He is one great Pirate.

Carlos - update 3
Carlos had surgery Wednesday 12/09. They surgery was more intensive than expected. The surgical team had to remove 90% of his pancreas and his spleen. The tumor had extracted from the pancreas and wrapped around a main artery. The team was able to scrape the artery and the cancer had not invaded the artery. We are all so thankful for all the prayers from everyone for Carlos; the surgery team stated they were able to remove all of the cancer. Carlos will take radiation as soon as he is strong enough; just to make sure all cancel cells are gone. He is currently in intensive care and will be there for about 5 days then he will be moved to a room. We were all able to go in to see him late last night and will see him again in a few hours. He is awake but is in quite a bit of pain. He sends his best to everyone. Please continue to keep Carlos in your prayers.

The prognosis, and recovery is most dependent on the tissue diagnosis of the mass. Was this a primary or secondary lesion?
Wish him the best......

Carlos was able to go home Wednesday the 16th. He is resting at home and it will be great to have him home for Christmas. He is doing well and will report back to the surgeon on Tuesday. As soon as he is strong enough the will start the radiation treatments as a safety measure. He thanks everyone for the prayers and is already talking about working on the pirate boat, so we know he is getting a lot better.

Carlos received disturbing news after his full body scan on Thursday. The cancer that was removed has grown back to the size of a grape in a matter of weeks. The doctors were holding off on chemo until he had gained some weight back. Due to the scan the doctors will not be able to wait longer and are laying out a highly aggressive plan of attack with chemo. The doctors will review the revised plan with Carlos and Angie on Monday. Plans are for putting a port in on Tuesday and chemo to start on Wednesday. He will have chemo treatments every other day for up to 6 months then radiation. Please keep Carlos in your prayers.
