P Class takes center stage
#1
2004 OPA NATIONAL P CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Liberty Grand Prix will be take place on the Camden NJ Waterfront during October 8, 9 & 10. This race is being billed as the P Class National Championship race open to any P Class boat that raced anywhere during the 2004 season. A single race, winner-take-all format will determine which boats share in the purse.
Spectators will enjoy a clean modern waterfront park that is adjacent to the Camden Aquarium and Battleship New Jersey. Spectacular views of the entire racecourse are available from the deck of the Battleship USS New Jersey. The Battleship is now a museum and will host a prerace dinner party on the aft deck the night before the race.
Local bands will perform during an outside concert on the stage at the promenade along the Delaware River. Food courts will be established on both sides of the river as the cities plan to promote this race in a big way to insure a large spectator turnout. A new Light Rail Trolley is available for local transportation on the NJ side of the river.
The race site includes a huge paved parking lot, protected by a high security fence that will serve as the Dry Pits. Racers will also have access to the paved pier with 2 cranes. Next to the pier, an enormous municipal marina will serve as the Wet Pits.
Never before has a local community embraced a powerboat race like this. Camden and Philadelphia have rolled out the red carpet and even invited all branches of the armed forces to participate. Expect to see the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines put on live demonstrations. Seal teams, helicopter drops, paratroopers, and fighter jet flybys will be part of the action on Friday and Saturday.
Mark your calendar, as OPA is inviting the South, West and Central Divisions to take on the Jersey Boyz to finally see who's the best.
Friday, Oct. 8 - setup, welcome party
Saturday, Oct 9 - testing, drivers meeting, dinner party
Sunday, Oct 10 - race 1, race 2, awards party
Please contact OPA at 732 477 7400 for more information.

Great place for an arena style race. Between the two bridges, alongside the Battle ship, and in front of the Camden water front, as well as the Phila. seaport. Now who's gonna whip the Boyz?........................

The race is on the Delaware River.
The boyz wanted to make this a fair fight so it's on neutral ground. This is the first time an offshore race has been held on this waterway.
The money is not in hand yet so we can't say what the purse will be, but if it comes through, it will be the biggest purse in P Class history.

I talked to Kurt from OPA at this year's Miami Boat Show and it sounds like a great venue to bring the PX-77 Pair-A-Dice Raceboat to, if other PX Class boats could join us.
